Thanks to a 2-day format with qualifying starting at 2:30pm today, I was able to leave the house early this morning and arrive in plenty of time to get settled and get teched in. The weather entertainment people missed (shocking!), and the forecast has taken a significant turn for the better. The sun has peeked through, there's a brisk crosswind cooling things down from the 81.5 deg air temp (29.23 baro, 63%, 2937' DA), and Hot Rod has been called to the lanes right on time for Q1.

It's my first trip to Cordova. Beautiful parklike facility, with some freshly paved pit roads, new grandstands, and a playground. Great to hear my old friend Taz on the PA.

Got a nice spot on the corner not far from the stands, right beside the fuel station. 2 qualifying sessions scheduled for today, 1 more in the morning, and then final eliminations tomorrow as well.

Alex, IHRA stuff isn't posted on DRC at any point. Check dragstory.com under results for end of the day results. Also, you can watch live via the link on ihra.com.

Got our 2 laps in today, just before a very light and brief sprinkle. The cross-tail continued fairly strong. Air improved a couple hundred feet. Made a little adjustment and picked up a couple in Q2.

Raining right now. Big cell mostly south of us, but it's running northeast, and we're right in line with the upper edge. Original schedule has a Q3 listed for today. Two more Stockers have come in, and I'd heard last night that Folk was coming in Super Stock.

The wind shifted along with some cooler air and another bout of rain, whichhas finally died to a bare sprinkle. Q3 has been cancelled. Any new entries today can opt to either get a refund, or be put on the bottom of the sheet and dial it off the trailer.

In good news, the bread pork tenderloin sandwich and waffle fries are great! ;-)

Got a chance to meet Rich from Allstar Performance this morning, who happened to be taking shelter from the rain under my canopy when I came in. Nice gentleman. They're a manufacturer tied in with Motorstate and Lane Automotive. He said they recently signed a deal to post contingency.

Also new is Clevite posting a bonus to winners, and Aeromotive posting a special bonus in Pro Stock and Super Stock this weekend.

Radar was looking pretty clear and we were juuuust about dry when a pop-up shower just hit us, wiping out the afternoon's drying efforts. Temps are down in the 50's!

Cordova car count is down from the last time NHRA was there in 2013. Back then it was 54 in Stock and 32 in S/S. And there was rain at that event also.

Looks like Div 4 IHRA car counts a few years ago, when I last ran a few of their races. Wasn't much like going racing.

I will say that the forecast kept some local cars away also. I think the field is still open. It is possible to see a few pop in. There is supposed to be a final q session this morning. Not only is the weather bad, the weekend is full of graduation parties. That doesn't explain the low count compared to NHRA for sure, but I didn't expect it to be that low!

With both Rockingham and Cordova you have tracks that switched sanctions that are the outskirts of their Divisions, with no advertising. If you just put a race on the schedule and that's it, you're going to get the guys chasing points (and those have other, closer options) and a couple local guys. Other than those, how many people even knew Rockingham and Cordova were going on this weekend?

Distance, bad forecast, and it's hard to draw Div 5 cars when there is no Div 5 in IHRA. Many of those guys probably still carry a grudge from IHRA dropping the Division years ago. Doesn't effect S/SS, but I heard that some other tracks in the region have conflicting events: 8.90/9.90/10.90 association at one track, a Top Sportsman deal at another, and PDRA IN St. Louis.

Those of us that are here are racing for guaranteed money with increased national event payouts this year plus sponsor bonuses, and have been enjoying ourselves despite the weather.

What a difference two days and a crazy weather front makes. From 3000' with a crosstail on Friday to a brisk 55.7 degrees, 29.51, 65% combining for a n altitude of just 512', hampered only by an equally brisk cross headwind. The sun is shining brightly, with the sky dotted only intermittently by white puffy clouds, having been wrung out pretty well yesterday!

The NHRA divisions do not do much advertising other than putting the date of their LODRS races on the schedule and they draw plenty of cars even at tracks on the outskirts of a division. There must be a reason why.

P.S. I just noticed this was a IHRA National event instead of a division race. OMG
