Red Lights-First or Worst?

This topic comes up now and then and it seems to be thought of universally as unfair. What do you guys think? This is one of those rules that I am not sure why they haven't made the move to change.

I guess one could make the argument that it encourages us to build faster cars. I don't know that I would spend that kind of money to avoid a situation that only happens once in a while to me. And what about other categories like jr racing? If you are in the 8.90 age group you can't go 7.90 and be the faster car.

Maybe I am missing the point with this.

The point is, it's a very very old subject, it's not changing. You can search the threads and get all the reading material you need. Most people are tired of talking about it.

My curiosity at this point is who is supporting keeping it like it is?

Racers with fast cars. They want their opponent to have the first opportunity to go red and lose.

Rule changes are made all the time. This would be one that is way over due.

In my opinion, the first or worst red-lite rule should apply to races that use cross-talk.Reason being is both cars are leaving on the same top bulb, only difference is the delay in the delay box Faster cars have more delay..Its should be just like a heads-ups race, worst red-lite loses,it will never happen ,faster cars have more pull with the management ,just my opinion,

The rule is the first or worst infraction. Not first or worst infraction of the same offense. Could you imagine the arguments about who crossed the center line worse? Get over it and waste time with reasonable topics..........

Re: Red Lights-First or Worst?

First off,if both cars cross the center lines,or side marker lines etc. they are both DQed,only in the final rd. if this happens is one car made the winner, and its decided by the starter or track officials etc.Like I said ,its only my opinion,i have been a avid drag racer for over 45 yrs. now,won many championships and Wallys,i think if you ask the racers most would have the red lite rule changed when using Cross-talk system.

Re: Red Lights-First or Worst?

There is an inherent problem with that. Only bracket racing and the TD/TS cars run crosstalk. Also at some tracks, you are allow to have the crosstalk turned off by placing a "N" before your dial-in. Now we would have a situation that only pertains to some classes at some events. What about the No E classes? I could imagine all the complaints and potential reruns.

Re: Red Lights-First or Worst?

Like I said ,when cross talk is used, and the faster car is leaving on your top bulb, with more delay,it should be worst red-lite.How many more advantages do the faster cars need ,Yrs. ago we raced full tree no blinders, faster cars complained ,and they got blinders on the tree. After we got blinders that wasnt good enough for the faster cars ,then they wanted open top bulb because the slower car was moving in there view of the tree,so they got there open top bulb. Now the faster car has cross-talk ,open tree ,leaving on there top bulb the same time the slower cars top bulb comes on.

Now tell me what the slower cars have gotten out of all these yrs. lol.,oh wait the slower cars at some tracks cant deep stage ,there also on auto -start at most tracks ,making it really tough to get deep stagged in a normal manner.I really like BIG BUCKS racing ,we only have it about 4 times a yr. here in Div. 7,i do ok racing my 11 sec. olds. All im saying is i think there should be a red-lite rule ,but it wont be changed till enough racers suggest it to the promoters ,there should be a vote between all cross talk racers classes, good luck on that one .There i said it let the comments begin LOL.

This is a rule that has always been wrong. It should be worst.

Add this, just be closest to your index or dial in.
Going under isn't a loss.
Just be closest to the dial in or index.

If I were to change bracket racing, it would be to have a fully blinded tree, and it would be instant green, WITH clock start at green.
Your dial in will include your reaction time.
Can you and your car really repeat?

Then maybe the whining would stop.

It will never stop. Not as long as there are people here who think this world owes them something. (Like a rule change) What they are really saying to everyone else is ... I can't win because I'm stupid, not smart enough or not rich enough or too lazy to go to work. And as a result I need special concessions or I can't win.

Everyone who races will lose. The true winners get back up, brush off the dust and hit it again. The true losers will never win because they fail to accept responsibility for their loss. They whine and cry, continuously blaming someone or something else for their failure and beg the world to cut them some slack. The truth is, they play under the same rules as everyone else and enjoy the same benefits and opportunities as everyone else. In fact, everyone agrees to the rules when they drive through the gate and pay their entry fee.

So in the end these people (losers) who whine, cry, beg and complain have no one to blame but themselves as they agreed to everything when they entered. Their choices? Get up, dust off, try to learn something from their loss and hit it again or stay home. Either way, most folks don't care.

Bracket racing in our area isn't dead, but growing a little bit. I do have to agree that they should scrap brackets and go to index racing. Nobody watches Brackets/SC/SG except the people involved or their family. Try to explain Comp Elim to someone that has never been to a bracket race or a Nat. Good luck with that one.

I think index racing with a .400 tree will bring back spectators and the racers will love it once they get on to it. As a driver I know it is more fun when I am side by side with a guy going down the track. Much more so that either blowing by someone at the finish line or getting blown by. When both cars leave at the same time and arrive at the finish line at the same time people will watch it and enjoy it a lot more.

One complaint I hear from racers is, "I can't go fast enough to be in the 9 second index", I get that slowing your car down is against a drag racers instincts. But if you are a bracket racer, you are already slowing your car down if you are winning. You are not winning a bunch of races and dialing straight up. You may win a few, but the guys that know how to hold are winning the races.. So slow your car down to the 10 second index and have fun again.

I agree withMr. Wilson "

In the past I raced in bracket races that had a comon index and when S/C first started it was similar racing side by side and it was great.
I also have advocated to abandon throttle stops only to upset a lot of guys that don't want to change.

As far as the red light rule is concerned if your leaving at the same time it's adequate as is but if your leaving with a staggered start it should be the worst not the first. I think a couple of big bracket race promoting /Racers are trying to address just that.(Biondo, Speilia? )

Made lots of enemies with this topic but also some friends, I started a post many years ago and it was a win,for don't change a thing camp, I felt that the worst light, was a great way to equalize the system. I also have been racing, for over forty plus years and have had some slow racers and fast ones too. I like racing whatever you put me in, I love being the slower car, yes I leave first and can red light but if I have a killer light he has to wait there, all that time, while my opponent is baking in the heat, seeing me getting farther away causing him now,to possibly red light his chance away? who has the advantage anyways, hard to tell?
