Re: 2016 Sports Nationals Dates and Tracks?
Jegs renewed their contract in 2013 through 2016 season for all 3 races so I would imagine all 3 would be run.
However I do know that no schedule has been set for dates, locations, or anything per the division directors. |
Re: 2016 Sports Nationals Dates and Tracks?
It's official now.
A single JEGS SPORTSnationals event in 2016, Memorial Day weekend at Beech Bend Raceway in Bowling Green, Ky. Full national event payout and (new for this year) all entries get a grade point for attending. Class Eliminations for SS and STK I'd expect to see more cool stuff announced shortly. |
Re: 2016 Sports Nationals Dates and Tracks?
looking at the NHRA National event schedule at this time SEVENTEEN events do not have an "official event sponsor" out of 23 total events--- great to see Jeg's step up and continue their long term support of Sportsman racing-- FED 387

Re: 2016 Sports Nationals Dates and Tracks?
Here's the official announcement that Kevin mentioned. BG is a great facility that can handle a lot of cars, just surprised JEGS didn't do all three again. Thought these drew good car counts everywhere.

surprised they didn't keep the race at National Trail since it is their home.

Re: 2016 Sports Nationals Dates and Tracks?
The Sportsnationals back where it should be. This will be a huge race, maybe 700 cars total. Look for a full field in both stock and super stock. Yee ha!

Re: 2016 Sports Nationals Dates and Tracks?
Not that very many people ever attend the Maple Grove divisional or anything...
I realize there's only so many weekends, but really? |
Re: 2016 Sports Nationals Dates and Tracks?
Farewell Cajun Sportsnats, I was looking forward to going back again in 2016.

Re: 2016 Sports Nationals Dates and Tracks?
there was a rumor about one race being at Ennis. Any news about that?

http://nhra.com/story/2013/10/31/jeg...ortsnationals/ "JEGS Mail Order, a nationwide leader in the sales and distribution of parts and supplies for the aftermarket performance industry, has signed an agreement with NHRA to continue as the title sponsor for all three NHRA SPORTSnationals events through 2016". Sucks though Belle Rose is by far one of my top 3 races to attend(behind the world footbrake challenge and southern footbrake challenge). Not only that but it's on top of Memphis Ihra Pro-am that I'm already obligated to. |
Re: 2016 Sports Nationals Dates and Tracks?
Wasn't sure I would ever see the day that The Sports would return home to Bowling Green. For you young racers out there, this was a tremendous race back in the day. Hoping for great weather on Memorial Day weekend 2016.

Re: 2016 Sports Nationals Dates and Tracks?
It is good to see the race back at Beech Bend. The only problem I see is a race 3 weekends in a row. Nowalk, Beech Bend, and then RT 66. I will probably skip the race, it is very difficult to win the National Tittle for a little guy like me. But I will definetly considerate it. Steve Williams, S/G

From that day on, when I heard " NHRA Sportsnationals " I would automatically think Bowling Green. |
Re: 2016 Sports Nationals Dates and Tracks?
I'm just guessing that this is no longer a national open so the 1.2 under rule is in effect?
|
Re: 2016 Sports Nationals Dates and Tracks?
I assume that is Memorial Day. I am going fishing. I have been fishing a tournament with the same guys for 28 years, and I'm going again.

Re: 2016 Sports Nationals Dates and Tracks?
Jeff, Dates posted on division 3 web site May 27-29-16, only one Sports National race. Tom

Re: 2016 Sports Nationals Dates and Tracks?
This will be a special race. For you younger guys that have no memory of the Sportsnationals back in the 70's and 80's, this was the best race of the year next to Indy. Anyone that has a sense of history should come.

It's a real nice sportsman track. Up close action and the covered grand stands really make the sound of high rpm cars sound awesome ! |

Re: 2016 Sports Nationals Dates and Tracks?
Dyno, Fascat went by the track over a month ago and said it was in bad shape. He spoke with someone, I don't think it was Pat, and they told him then they race was off. As for running the track at all, not sure.

Re: 2016 Sports Nationals Dates and Tracks?
We will be testing Phish at NPR the weekend after Thanksgiving and Jeremy will be getting his license in the RMRE tribute car. D4 still has a points meet on the new schedule as always. I am going to miss the SportsNats there for sure. I am up for a Chootout at BG. A little bird told me a prostock racer will be running a hemi car next year. Maybe we can find a sponsor. I have never "Bend" there. SCW

Having a Sportsnationals at Bowling Green- - - Great idea
Same weekend as Maple Grove LODRS - - -- no so Great Sports at No Problem will definitely be missed. It is something like 1500-1600 miles for me and I am glad I went 2 times. We owe it to Pat who made it what it was,,,a must attend event. |

Looks like my tradition of trying to set National records on Memeorial day weekend is over. :( Copy n paste from their site: " The JEGS SPORTSnationals, the premier standalone event in the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, will continue to be a national event with national points being awarded for all classes except Super Street, which will earn divisional championship points. New in 2016, all racers will receive an NHRA national event grade point for attending the race." |
Re: 2016 Sports Nationals Dates and Tracks?
So Bowling Green is the only Sportsnationals ?

Dave, Bowling Green has hosted a sports national event on that weekend for about 40 years. A Memorial Day Sports National event at Bowling Green is a venerable tradition that we've held dear for about as long as I have been involved in racing, the first Sports Nationals was held there. For 2016, we are very fortunate that Dallas and Brock at Bowling Green have brought Jeg's to back an event that those of us who call Bowling Green our home track have loved for a long time. |
Re: 2016 Sports Nationals Dates and Tracks?
95% of D1 guys don't travel outside D1 because the air is to bad. So I see this only being a issue for 5-10 of you maximum.
Very few D1 guys made the trip to beards race when it was in May and its 300 miles closer then BG for most. |
Re: 2016 Sports Nationals Dates and Tracks?
Alan,
Having the Sportsnationals at Bowling Green again, is, as I said a great idea. I am very familiar with the history of the event. I considered Joe Kenney a friend and he won SS 2 years in a row 1979 and 80 at Bowling Green. I doubt that in those years 2 events as important as the Sportsnats. and the Maple Grove pts meet were on the same weekend. The event at BG recently (last 30 or so years) has not been a national event, it has been a national open I believe. Scheduling is a very tough deal, there are so many more races and track events these days. Bowling Green and D3 has everything to gain here, Maple Grove will lose some cars. Wish it was avoidable. Charlie, you really believe D1 racers only go to fast tracks ? I have raced at 30 or 40 tracks, currently the track I have on the top of my list to race at is Bristol, how fast is that place ???LOL |
