Party Update Dec 5 Houma, LA

Just thought I would update some stuff. The menu; so far, shrimp, fried, bacon wrapped, fettuccine, and really good shrimp dip;great with a beverage. Assorted mini Po Boys all good, Jambalaya, and lots of other stuff, plus desserts, full bar, and I'm not sure what else. Party around 7 or so, but open house all afternoon. I need as many as possible to email me jefft@southlanddodge.com so we have a number, I am estimating about 250. Anyone coming in a little early, let me know. Swamp/Eagle tour, plantations, motor home parking, lodging I suggest using the net, anything on MLK Blvd is new and close to the dealership/race facility (party site). Kevin Helms (Stock), Craig Bourgeois (Comp) and we are having some others invited who live here in Louisiana. We are trying to do name tags and count and handle whatever else we need to do. Any questions, email me. Yall come.

What does a Yankee know about good Cajun music??
This song is considered the bible of Cajun music.

I grew up about 10 miles away from the guy who wrote/sang that song. It all about a guy who was so embarrassed by the things he does that he has to enter his own house through the back door. Not unlike when someone red lights, then run 1.25 seconds under or when your opponent breaks at the starting line and you run it through and break out by 0.15 seconds.

Here are the words to that song.

LA PORTE D'EN ARRIERE
"The Back Door"

(Translation)
1. Me and my girl had gone to the dance,
We went to all the Honky-Tonks,
We came back the next morning,
The day was breaking,
I passed in by the back door.

2. That afternoon I was at the village,
I got so drunk I couldn't walk,
They brought me back to the house,
There was company there, some strangers,
I passed in by the back door.

3. My old father, one evening when I arrived,
He tried to change my way of looking at things,
I didn't listen to him, I had too hard a head,
"A day will come, my young boy, you'll be sorry,
You passed in by the back door."

4. I had a lot of friends when I had money,
Now that I don't have any money they don't want to see me anymore,
I was in town, I got myself into trouble,
The law picked me up, and I was put in jail,
I'm gonna' pass in through the back door.

It ain't for everybody, but some of us LOVE Cajun music and food. Although I live in North LA, we still have lots of crawfish boils, and I can buy my smoked Boudin at our local Wal-Mart.

We don't have a lot of live Cajun music up here, except for a few festivals. But, nowadays you can go online and listen to Cajun music, on hundreds of free music videos. So, for you folks who can't make it to Cajun country, you can listen anytime you want.

Marc & Ann Savoy are 2 of the big names in Cajun culture and music. Ann wrote a very popular book about it, and Marc is a very good Cajun musician, who builds Cajun accordions. They have a very good Cajun band, called the Savoy Family Band. Ann also got together with some other girls and formed the Magnolia Sisters band.

OK - one of us will be there - I will try for both of us.

The Cajun women did it for me. Don't worry about them being my age - I like them Andy's age - just that they can out run me - LMAO - not really funny - but unfortunately really true ..

In Friday night - out Sunday afternoon on Southwest .. just need to skip one race next year -- I am sure this event should take precedence.

Yeah, some Doug Kershaw!

I have two cousins who are accomplished violinists, one was first chair in the orchestra even though she wasn't a music major, and when I asked them to play this they almost cried:-)

Since Kevin is now the world champ does this mean he no longer has to be beer boy?

Jeff, We had really wanted to come celebrate with all of you but my nephew decided this was the only day of the year he could get married. I tried to convince them to get married at your party but no luck at all with that. Guess I'll be in Oklahoma. Congrats to Kevin, Craig, and you and your entire team. We will be thinking of you. Re: Party Update Dec 5 Houma, LA

If you missed, you missed a good time. We had current World Champions Kevin Helms (Stock), Craig Bourgeois (Comp) Erica Enders-Stevens (Pro Stock) and Jimmy Hidalgo Jr. (Super Stock IHRA) and past Champion Sammy Pizzolato. Jimmy was also #5 in Stock in NHRA. We had great food, lots to drink, got a Merry Christmas wished to everyone, and what party could go without a little burn out contest. I will measure the marks to see if Stan Holt in his Hellcat or Kevin Helms in the World Champion car did the most. Sure was smokey a long time. Thanks to all who attended. I think we had 150 or 200 at any time with goings and comings. Everybody picked up at least a tenth.

This one flew completely under the radar, or I just wasn't paying very good attention. We're always looking for an excuse to go back to south Louisiana and this would really have been a good one. Sorry we missed this one Jeff, thanks for the acknowledgement.

We sure hope to see folks more regularly next year. This past one was a real challenge. We certainly wish everyone on the forum a blessed Christmas and a safe & healthy new year.
