Re: Godspeed Jim Isherwood
This is such very sad news. Jim and his hard charging Hemi Belvedere were a fixture in West Coast Super Stock racing for almost 40 years.Jim and wife Marilyn were about the nicest people you would ever meet. RIP Jim.

Re: Godspeed Jim Isherwood
Met Jim and his wife at the Mission spring race back in 2003. They were running the Hemi Challenge back then and the place was fairly packed but they were graciously answering questions of interested spectators. Godspeed to one of the good ones as well as ambassador for the sport.

Re: Godspeed Jim Isherwood
This was like getting hit by a 240 volt live line. Just can't express how I feel. Jim and Marylin are two of the nicest people around. I'll miss those pizza's and cold beers at Mission Springs. Bye for now my friend.

Re: Godspeed Jim Isherwood
This is shocking. I talked with him and Marilyn at Pacific Raceways this summer. I knew he had some minor health issues, but thought they were under control. Another one of the good ones gone WAY too soon. My thoughts and prayers go out to his wife and daughter.

This is Shocking, Jim was one of the hardest working genuinely nice person you could meet. He would always stop his maintenance to answer my questions or just stop and listen. God speed Jim, I will be sending my prayers to Marilyn my prayers.

Gone too soon....many great memories...the heads up at Woodburn with Jackie Alley, the multiple times Jim was wheels up with that beast of a car , head close to the wall and never lift...and later say ...now it didn't seem THAT close....godspeed Jim.

Re: Godspeed Jim Isherwood
hello, is there an address to send a card to for jim and family? thank you
|
Re: Godspeed Jim Isherwood
I talked to Marilyn for a while last night, she's hanging in there but it all happened quite quickly so a shock for everyone. Jim died from a bacterial infection, probably one of those things that will never have a good explanation.
Marilyn said that there won't be a funeral as such but that they are planning a get together after the holidays. I'll get some info out on Class Racer when a date is set as I'm sure a lot of us would like to attend. Also, I don't have their address right now but I'll post it here in the next day or so if anyone wants to send a card. For those of you that didn't know Jim, beyond being about the nicest guy you could ever meet, he was the epitome of what class racing is supposed to be all about. In the age of purchased cars and engines, Jim built his own engines, transmissions and car, he knew every bolt on his car. Although he was a great driver with divisional and Nat'l open wins, he would sell his eye teeth to go a hundredth quicker, he pretty much ran his car on kill every run. It was pretty typical to walk into his pit spot and see the valve covers, oil pan and disassembled trans spread out on the ground, a few new valve springs later it would be all reassembled in time for the next round. And through all that, he would still be joking around with that classic Canadian sense of humor. In addition to his Hemi car, their daughter ran a 12 second Dart bracket car that Jim built, she was in the ROC race last year so no slouch at driving either. I don't think that Marilyn ever missed a race, their family is very close and a roll model for us all. We all miss you Jim, racing won't be the same with you gone. Jim Caughlin SS 6019 |
Re: Godspeed Jim Isherwood
R.I.P. Jim I will miss stopping by your always welcoming pit.
|
Re: Godspeed Jim Isherwood
Jim was one of the hardest working class racers I have seen at the track. Like Caughlin stated, between rounds we would be walking through the pits and Jim was always elbow-deep into that engine getting it prepped for next round. So much dedication to that Hemi. Marilyn and Jim were always so welcoming...always offering a soda from their cooler every time I stopped by to say hi.
I will miss Jim and wathcing that wheel standing Belvedere leave the line. |

Re: Godspeed Jim Isherwood
My Deepest Condolences to Marilyn and Family. We have lost a Good Member of our racing family. I can honestly say that every time Jim was present there was a handshake upon arrival and on departure. Jim was Honourable, Genuine and just a Great Guy. Jim was Super Stock to the core and with Marilyn's support made them a Winning Team. His dedication to overcome an obstacle were personally inspirational. Conversations about Heart Surgery Recovery, Hemi valve cover bolt holes or Aluminum heads on a Big Block Chevrolet were intense, but ended with a chuckle and a smile. Memories of the Dyno Breakfasts and the Respect will remain forever. Jim you will be Sincerely Missed…Maurice.

Re: Godspeed Jim Isherwood
A sad day indeed for the drag racing community in the northwest . A very profound and sudden loss .
Jim was pitched a curveball a few years ago with a heart bypass operation and knocked it right out of the park , coming back as strong as ever in record time. But that was just Jim displaying his intense determination to win. I thought that nothing was going to stop him after that. I'm still in shock over his passing. I got to know Jim after he recruited me to work for him. He had a managing style of his own and I could see that he was a very dedicated, hard working, and smart individual. He put 110% into what ever he was doing, particularly when it came to making his car faster. He was always thinking about and analyzing it's performance looking for that hundredth because he cherished the next opertunity for a heads up race against Jackie Alley. I learned a lot from him both on the job and about Super Stock racing, and grew to have a great deal of respect for him and his ingenuity and determination. After he abruptly left his Forman position for better opertunities we continued to talk countless times about racing, Super Stock strategy, and the NHRA. Sometimes even bantering back and forth in jest about which was better, Chrysler or Chevrolet. I looked forward to racing Super Stock with him and tapping into his years of class racing experiance . His knowledge and wisdom about racing, and life in general, was remarkable and his advice was always spot on. Jim and his " crew " always welcomed me when I visited the " team Isherwood " pit at the track and I even had the pleasure of helping to re and re the transmission a couple of times on his wheelstanding Plymouth. I will always enjoy the memory of that thrash. He was an all around upstanding individual that strived for the best and I"m proud to say he was my friend. He will be greatly missed. Godspeed Jim. My sincerest condolences to Marilyn , Robert , Veronica and the entire Isherwood family. |
