I bought an old Vega

What chassis builder did work like this. Well done work that had to be from a chassis shop. Looks like originally had a big block. Could it have been a Pro Stock. Car came from the mid west

Re: I bought an old Vega
No one? From what I have found and pictures of the Grumpys Toy X. It looks like it could have been an SRD car. Who can verify that? Or who can I contact. IT IS NOT A GRUMP CAR. The front suspension was painted white. The car had been whit and then a medium solid blue. the rear is a factory mopar Dana 60 with sunbber holes cas in the top. The rear was modified with a ladder bar and a well built wish bone. The rear was painted red.

Re: I bought an old Vega
Could also be a Don Ness car.
|
Re: I bought an old Vega
The trim tag says it's a 1973. Updated to 1977

Re: I bought an old Vega
Not a Ness car for sure, also not a Don Hardy car either.Cr

Re: I bought an old Vega
Looks a lot like the ones that Wolverine Chassis in Michigan (Tom Smith) did.

Re: I bought an old Vega
You could google "vega race car " , go to images and scroll them all to see if you might catch a picture of a possible answer. Never know what you might find.
Just a thought! Also Google some H-body forums and post up a picture or two of the car. More eyes that see it are more eyes for answers. An outside photo on here would be a great start. |
Re: I bought an old Vega
I have Googled images. I stripped the paint off the trim tag and it is a 1973 body in white. It is hard to load pictures on this site. All I have are taken with my phone. The front suspension looks similar to pictures I found of Ronnie Manchesters. Car

Re: I bought an old Vega
If you show a picture of the actual car someone may recognize it and help you to track some history, which could lead to the Fabricator. Rear wheel openings, suspensions and housing brackets often can be indicators to narrow your search. MB

Re: I bought an old Vega
Pics of the car today would as stated be helpful.
Here is what Draglist says: SRD Racecars for all the Vega's they have listed for Ronnie Manchester. Also shows them all as 331c.i. and 4 speeds. Link to a bunch of Grumpy XI chassis pics from SRD below. Built to Grumpy specs they might have some similarity to your car that helps identify it. From the pictures something as simple as hood pin location or mounting holes for cowl gauges can be a start: https://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl...&iact=c&ictx=1 |

Re: I bought an old Vega
That is definitely an early SRD Vega! The front suspension and bars coming out of the firewall are a dead giveaway.

Re: I bought an old Vega
Ok. So who had a white front suspension with a red Dana 60? It was updated to 77. It had updates to the cage. The steel floors were removed and square stock was put in with aluminum interior. Is there some one still around from SRD I can get in touch with

Re: I bought an old Vega
S&W Race cars bought out SRD. I believe there are still a few guys who worked there that are still around. Unfortunately, I do not think there were any records kept unlike other builders.

Re: I bought an old Vega
I talked to Bruce Larson today. Unfortunately he was not any help. Does anyone know if Ronnie Manchesters car had a red Dana 60?

Re: I bought an old Vega
I am looking for a Rod Weideman that raced at WIR in Wisconsin. The car was blue, with orange, red, and yellow stripes. Does anyone know him or how to get in contact with him or pm me I can send my contact info. I REALLY need to talk to him

Re: I bought an old Vega
I have confirmation from Pete Hutchinson of Malvern PA who worked at SRD that it is an SRD car and he personally built this car. I sent him pictures of the car and anything additional he wanted to see. It was a step I n the right direction, but still need to figure out who was the original owner. It is a 1973

Re: I bought an old Vega
Post up some full car pictures from all four corners would be a good start.
Also, consider bring this topic over to the Nostalgia forum. Took a while to find the pedigree of Liteweights LO23 Hemi Dart but we did it over there. Lots of old guys and old eyes there. |
