Dime Rocket Fantasy
What's yours?
Not sure if it would work? Don't quite know how to proceed? Give me a call. We'll kick it around. I've got a shop in a small town in northern Az. . Not much going on locally. 602-769-0346 myac455@gmail.com |

How big a dime are we talking, Mark? -Al

For someone who's not somewhat hands on , themselves, a dime could easily turn into a dime and a nickle. Probably have plenty of change left from a quarter anyway, though. I do most of this stuff myself, so that helps too. |
Re: Dime Rocket Fantasy
I'll play:
1980 Buick Century 4Dr Sedan 231 V6 with a Dualjet Fits V/SA at 3250 lbs Metric 200, access to a cheap Chevette converter (Dacco B10) 7.5 rear with 4.56s, 26" slicks Stock 60k shortblock, heads (current running/driving car) 1 1/2" headers (Hedman street headers) Not sure where to start with cam/converter, thinking baseline to just get it down the strip and see what it'll do? Maybe a regrind? What I listed part-wise is what I actually have available right now. Maybe I could get it to the index then upgrade as funds allow, but if nothing else just get it making passes. That was a downfall of my past failures. Workable? Thoughts/ideas? |
Re: Dime Rocket Fantasy
Have my mother's 1998 Mercury mystique v6 sitting here wondering what fwd class it would fit in. Car runs great. Or it is for sale if someone is interested on dime rocket car

Re: Dime Rocket Fantasy
Here' s two easy peasy DF/S cars
First one is getting hard to find. 94 Cavalier, 3.1 60 degree, 145 hp Stick or automatic. 15.60 index 14's easy enough. I still see these around here: 99 or thereabouts Monte Carlo 3.1, aluminum head, 155 hp. Not a lot different than the 3.4 we had.. less cam lift, less compression, and 16 less cubes, but 500 lbs lighter in DF/S Yeah? Time to get off the couch yet? |
Re: Dime Rocket Fantasy
Hey Father (elapsed) Time, I thought that FWD combos didn't qualify as "Dime Rockets"!

I changed my mind, after seeing 90 cents or more go into that Monte Carlo. Besides, I 've got plenty of D/R's that are RWD, but they're au..au..automatics, and that ain't me. RWD D/R stick shift cars are as rare as old Escorts. |

Re: Dime Rocket Fantasy
As evident I must like a "slow" V-8 Stick car as much as anyone. Given that if you try to do one on a budget it will be a parts eater. Unless you find something really light or horribly underfactored like a 302 FFFFord. The fox body 5.0 guys throw away good 8.8 rear ends too.

Parts breaker, anyway..Too heavy... 77 Maverick F-F-Ford...about 800# lighter |
Re: Dime Rocket Fantasy
Well Buddy, you're just going to have to hope that someone will donate to you a shoebox Chevyll with a 4 cyl. . It IS Christmas, it could happen!

Re: Dime Rocket Fantasy
I have a 64 Chevy II four door runs and drives V8 glide, you have to find the 4 banger. It is purdy ugly, someone painted it with a brush. All I what is engine, yes it is a 721 block. Make me a offer. Class Racer were dreams come true. Tom

Any love for the 82 Firebird or Camaro with the 2.5L 4 cylinder? Hard to find, but I have seen a couple around in the last few years.

It would probably be fun with a stick but even with an automatic I doubt that it would be cheap. |
Re: Dime Rocket Fantasy
you are going to have to run a SD block and a really good crank and not sure if its an Integral or crossflow head PLUS lots of tricks to make one make power as well as stay together--not a lot of "speed" parts out there anymore unless you can find a sprint car guy that has stuff--FED 387

But this IS the fantasy thread. .Maybe for SS/FC or something...But even there, there is a c.i. limit . I think the Rod Shop Fiero was bigger than 155 inches. |

Merry Christmas! When are you gonna pick it up?

I'd probably put a T 5 in that one ,and drive it..Too nice to make a "tissue box" out of it. |
Re: Dime Rocket Fantasy
What about a 63 Chevy II wagon know where there is a nice one. I have the original 6 from it, was converted to 5 bolt wheels and 10 bolt. Tom

Re: Dime Rocket Fantasy
Since this thread is Dime Rocket Fantasy, how about a Dime Rocket Nationals????

Instead of prize money, the winner gets to pick his choice of all the losers cars! That might keep out the "ringers". (the way Stock/SS is today, probably not.) |

Re: Dime Rocket Fantasy
Since this is a fantasy thread let's have some fun.
35 cars show up so number 1 qualifier is important. 1.75 under??? NHRA puts up some big money for the winner and runner-up. Sponsors give money for first round losers and so on. I better stop there my brain is overworked. MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

What is the $ limit on the dime rocket fantasy car?

Re: Dime Rocket Fantasy
We do have a few 2 door ECO Cavaliers cars auto and sticks but as I said before how to make time for build. We have done winning dirt cars overnite if we had the cage done. We use to switch stick transmissions in 30 minutes because of gear ratio for different tracks. HHRs also has a different ratio. Tom

I like it..But seeing we won't have a lot of entry money to work with, I'm thinking we should just use donations. I'll pledge a package of zip ties.. These will be the good, re-usable ones for that last minute pit thrash. Also, a box of worm gear clamps 1/2" , all the way to 6" Plus, as a bonus..One sheet of shirt cardboard, some masking tape, and a spray can of paint..your choice of color. Let's make this really pay! I don't think we should lower ourselves to just a Wally. How about MufMan? We'll need a sponsor here https://i.postimg.cc/fWd2LskF/mman.png |
Re: Dime Rocket Fantasy
1/4 finals to winner can choose to swap vehicles straight across, or except the 10k
|
Re: Dime Rocket Fantasy
For every competitor who spends under 1K on his/her combo, you get to run on the existing index. For every $500 that you spend over 1K, you lose a tenth of index. Spend 6K? Lose a second of index! Bring your receipts. Now THAT'S a fantasy!

Re: Dime Rocket Fantasy
Since we have to social distance why can't we use Time slips from a race track nearby with tech and scales to certify the runs that way this could be a nationwide race. You can also use reaction time on the runs so you can't be asleep at the tree. Tom

Re: Dime Rocket Fantasy
Tom, you're giving me too much credit. I didn't ask the question with malicious intent. I literally brought the car home and raced it in as-is condition. Other than changing the wheels and tires and removing the P/S pump, I've done nothing other than what I (Doug) did with HP Tuners. It was really that easy.
Now I DID want to "play" with an ecotec so I guess that maybe some thought went into that. Trust me, I'm no W.J.! Not even close. |
