Class at Gainesville
I was informed today that Stock and SuperStock Class will be run on Friday of the Div. race. This is not posted anywhere, so pass the word.

Re: Class at Gainesville
So showing up for class at the national event I will be a week late. Sad just really sad.
To post this message from my phone I had to tap the "Done" button. |

Re: Class at Gainesville
The main reason this decision was made was to try and help all SS/STK racer that wanted to run class. NHRA knew going into this event they were going to have lower quotes for SS/STK and that it would more then likely take 5 plus grade points to enter. with the addition of S/ST and other on track 50th anniversary stuff going on Thursday-Sunday class would be hard to fit in and less car in each class because of the lower quota.
So instead of $hitting on the guys that wanted to go that had less the 5 grading points, this was a better alternative for both racers and NHRA. it gives everyone a chance to race class at Gainesville no matter what grade level you have. And lets be real for a min there are very few fans watching class on Friday morning during the gators. I bet there will be more people watching class at the baby gators then normal class eliminations This change was made to help everyone not remove class from national events. Larry not all of us are retired and can travel the would 25 weeks a year (LOL) |
Re: Class at Gainesville
Sooooooo, Charlie Bob, what you're saying is that NHRA is going to do us a favor and, out of the goodness of their heart, let any Racer that wants to run for a Gators Class Wally show up at the points meet and race for Class? If this is true, then I personally think that they should do this all of the time.
Soon we'll have no need what-so-ever to go to Natl. Events. |
Re: Class at Gainesville
You can billy, they have a sportsnationals every year.
Look nothing is perfect but give them a little credit I know of 75-100 guys that wanted to run class in Gainesville. At least 40 of them would have been out of luck. This is the best way to help make 80% happy. Is it perfect no, but its better then them say sorry about your luck. |
Re: Class at Gainesville
Then why don't they make this the norn in the markets that will bare it? I still can't see the NHRA be so benevolent as to give out Class Trophies to Racers who aren't entered at the Natl. Event. I wouldn't be surprised to see "Gators Entrants" called to the lanes for Class Runoffs.
Charlie, the Sportsnationals are their own deal. It has little to do with what the Board-of-Directors considers a "National Event". |
Re: Class at Gainesville
Still kinda of fuzzy until something official comes out but since I'll not have enough grade points for the Gators guess I'll just consider this an opportunity to run for a class trophy and if they park like they did last year I'll be pitting on the asphalt! Oh righty...see, glass half full.

Re: Class at Gainesville
As tight as nhra has become, I'm surprised they will allow anybody to run for class at the Div race.

Re: Class at Gainesville
I spoke with Cody yesterday in the Div 2 office and this was not set in stone yet but that was the plan. I believe he said it would all be updated after this weekend. I did ask if anyone could run for class as this will be my first year in Stock eliminator and the answer was yes everyone can run.
The plan was two time shots on Thursday and class run off on Friday. Regular race on Saturday and Sunday. |
Re: Class at Gainesville
So is there contingency being paid at baby gators for class?

Re: Class at Gainesville
Here is a copy of the e-mail Cody sent me

Re: Class at Gainesville
So I can go to the baby Gators win class and get a baby Wally? Without a Gatornations entry? My how times have changed!! I 9bly got 5 grade points, don't think that will cut it this year.

Re: Class at Gainesville
This is absolutely strange!

Re: Class at Gainesville
Anymore, with entries so limited and little or no contingencies, class is becoming meaningless except for Sportsnationals and Indy. It's a shame, it used to mean something.

Beginning of the end right there, folks. |
Re: Class at Gainesville
When they stopped tearing cars down after class was the writing on the wall. It means nothing to win class if the cars aren't legal. Might as well say "run what ya brung". Very sad!!

Re: Class at Gainesville
Hello Everyone
Hope you all had a great holiday season. It is almost time to go racing. I have had a lot of question about Stock and Super Stock Class at the Baby Gators. Yes, that is still happening. It will start March 7th on Thursday starting at 9 AM with at least one run for all classes and probably 2 for Stock and Super Stock, Friday will start at 9 AM with normal rotation for .90 classes and class elimination for Stock and Super Stock. Saturday will start at 9 am probably with the last time run for some classes and first round for some other classes to be determined. An exact schedule with be post on the D2 facebook page probably as early as next week and on the NHRA web site after that. Wish I had more info to tell you but it will be coming next week. Hope this helps. Have a great day Thanks Mike Crutchfield D2 SRAC |
Re: Class at Gainesville
Maybe NHRA should allow all class finalist at the division race to enter the national event regardless of grade points. That could make it more meaningful to run for class.,
better turn out and maybe better racing. |
Re: Class at Gainesville
So last year there was 81 cars in stock at the baby gators . Its very possible to get the 128 car field bump this year . If so how far under will the bump be ???

Re: Class at Gainesville
Would be nice if AHFS not in effect for the Gainesville Points race kinda like the Indy of the south. Mike McMahan 2543 H/SA

Or did NHRA make this decision just to make ME look bad?!? Or could this be some kind of a conspiracy set up by Charlie Bob and the NHRA to dis-credit me?!? Or could I be getting paranoid in my old age?!? Maybe I'm just bored. |

Re: Class at Gainesville
Class Racing - 50th annual Amalie Motor Oil NHRA Gatornationals moved to Baby Gators As a kickoff to the 50th annual Amalie Motor Oil NHRA Gatornationals, Stock and Super Stock “class” eliminations will be moved one week earlier into the Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series Regional event, commonly known as the Baby-Gators, in Gainesville, Fla.“The Gatornationals is an iconic event and Class Racing is part of the rich history of NHRA Championship Drag Racing,” said Josh Peterson, NHRA vice president of racing administration. “We want every NHRA Stock and Super Stock racer to have the opportunity to compete for that once in a lifetime Wally trophy from the 50th Anniversary event. Adjusting the schedule to run Class eliminations during the Baby-Gators opens the door to offer more racers the opportunity to etch their name in the history books as a Gatornationals Class Winner." All Stock and Super Stock racers entered in the 2019 edition of the Baby-Gators Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series regional event at Gainesville Raceway will be eligible to compete in CLASS eliminations. The tentative schedule includes Test-N-Tune on Wednesday, March 6. Qualifying for Stock and Super Stock will commence Thursday afternoon, March 7. Class Eliminations will take place on Friday, March 8. For a complete daily run schedule visit nhradiv2.com. |
Re: Class at Gainesville
So I guess you can run class for the Gatornationals without entering the Gatornationals.
|
Re: Class at Gainesville
Greg, I kinda like that. I was planning on going anyway. Missed the season last year with medical crap, so they average 3 years grade points. That got me a 4, but don't look that is enough this year. I also asked about owners points with Kevin and Allen, but I haven't heard yet. NHRA has every eliminator in the nation and a few from Russia (Trump told me that) so makes for lots of cars. Anyway the schedule is No Problem, Mardi Gras, Gainesville, Houston and that takes care of March. Looking forward to racing, might need some help finding the staging lanes, but I won't have trouble finding the beer.
