Re: Who was the 1st 6 cyl. Stocker racer to break into the 1
I did not go in the 11's but I am very proud of my 12.70's at 100mph with my V/S 6cyl. at Indy.

I might be wrong, but I remember the Gallina's with their V6 turbo Firebird back in the 90's going 11's. Might of even had a Buick Regal V6 turbo car before that.

I would guess it was a Buick T Type or GN? I'm sure Yac or Billy knows. (It wasn't my U/SA Nova, that's for sure! lol)

Re: Who was the 1st 6 cyl. Stocker racer to break into the 1
Ah, the memories...it seems like yesterday we were all sitting at the racer appreciation party in Bowling Green at the sports nationals . The topic at hand was the Buick turbo car entered in U/SA. Driven by Jim Deeter it had the field covered. Silent but deadly it made a mockery of the U/SA index. Sadly, the Monday after the race it was refactored to Q/SA. Ah, the good ole days.....

Buick Turbo Regal Engine with slight improvements. My first thought was Kenny Duttweiler. He was a class racer and the first person I ever met ( around 1985-1986 ) that was doing hard core Turbo Regal development ( pre-1986 non intercooled versions) for Buick |
Re: Who was the 1st 6 cyl. Stocker racer to break into the 1
i am not 100% sure but i believe fred vetter may have gone into the 11s with his 6cyl grand national and 6cyl firebird along with vic guillermo and his 6cyl grand national in the latter 1990s

Re: Who was the 1st 6 cyl. Stocker racer to break into the 1
I believe John Gallinas white T Type Buick was the first 6 cyl in the 11s with its previous owner which escapes me, division 1 I believe. Fred Vetter and Joe Garbarine come to mind. The 89 Pace Car trans am was the first 6 cyl in the 10s. Harry Doolittle was the first naturally aspirated 6 cyl in the 11s

I believe it was Fred Vetter could have been 1988 if I remember correctly.

My Missouri friend Jamie Greening has been running in the 11's for several years. 1996 Chevy S10 truck with a 4.3 V6. (NO TURBO)

Re: Who was the 1st 6 cyl. Stocker racer to break into the 1
If I had more money, would love to build one of the 89 - 95 Thunderbird Super Coupes with the blown 3.8L V-6 as a stocker. Worked on a few of them when I was still wrenching. Fun car.:D:D:D

Re: Who was the 1st 6 cyl. Stocker racer to break into the 1
I Paul Wong is probably right on Both of them as I recall.
John was also first Super Stocker in the Sevens with his other Buick GN (I believe only 206 CI). Kenny built all of John's stuff and went to races with him sometimes. I bought the White Stocker from John....It was a Rocket but impossible to drive the finish for me with the Turbo. I had a hard time staging it ..... I had to Spool it up with the brakes as HARD as I could push for about 10 Seconds. I knew I was finally ready to stage when my Socks were Wet! I sold it to someone in Arizona and only saw it race one time at a Divisional in Phoenix= Never saw it again! |
