Al was one of Stock Eliminators all time Great racers. Always willing to help others. Remember asking him a question on a Quadrajet problem I was having one time. He took me in his trailer and showed me a trick he used to slow down the secondary opening. It was a small valve from a fish tank air pump. He would put it in the line with the front pull off to slow down the opening , with the proper adjustment it would help eliminate a stumble. Pretty clever Al. He and Bev put a lot of miles on that old motorhome they had towing all over the country, and many times he rebuilt that tow vehicles 400 turbo, or power plant on the side of the road, or in the pits at a racetrack. Rip Al.

Re: Al Provoast RIP
What an awesome gentleman that Al was. Always ready to race, willing to give advice and tell some really cool stories that relate to our beloved sport. He was definitely someone I looked up to here in D3 and will always remember. RIP my friend.

Re: Al Provoast RIP
Al was truly a D3 TREASURE. Nicknamed FATHER TIME by a very well respected and colorful D3 racer, Al lived up to that moniker. Al and Bev stood the test of time for decades. He was ALWAYS first in line for time trials and as already stated he was always there to lend a helping hand. He would drive that OLDS wagon like he STOLE it. He was hard on it. He always had a spare bullet and tranny/converter in the trailer. But most of all, he was DEVOTED to Bev. ....IT TAKES TWO.....GODSPEED my friend.....

Re: Al Provoast RIP
Late eighties, Great Lakes Dragway had a notorious beer garden. The staging lanes were heavily populated with drunks.
There was Al, doing his best to chase the drunks away from everyone's cars: Not exactly a safe thing to do. |
Re: Al Provoast RIP
I met Al & Bev at my 1st Div 3 race at Stanton,Mi. Greeted me like a long time friend, When Bev would be on a morning walk, she would stop and say"Good Morning".
Last time I saw them was about a year and a half ago, same greeting and smile just like the first time. RIP Al. You will be missed. Prayers to Bev and their family |
Re: Al Provoast RIP
Sad Day for sure. Back in the late 80's my Dad was always 99.9 pct of the time first in lane to run time runs with Al in the Obi-Wan Malibu O/SA and we was at a race in Gulfport Mississippi that Al was off on the lights and asked my Dad to run him in time runs to get him back on the lights and my Dad laugh and did it. Al was always first in line at the races and 99.5 pct we would be second in line behind Al and Bev. Prays for Bev and the family! Al will be missed for sure and he's in a better place. Re: Al Provoast RIP
Connie (Al and Bev’s daughter)asked if I would post this on here for her.
It is with a broken heart that I am sharing with all of you that my father, my dad and my daddy went to heaven yesterday to be with his loved ones that passed before him. I know my brother, my boys and his parents were there to welcome him plus many others that's hearts my dad had touched through his 87+ years of life. It took me all of yesterday and half of today to make all of the calls to family and friends. I had many family members and friends helping me. I know there were not many states that we did not call. My parents made friends all over this country wherever they went. Those of you that had the pleasure to know my dad know he never met a stranger. He would walk up and start a conversation with someone he had never met. By the time they parted they would have dads life story and he would have their phone number. No one is going to miss this great man any more than me. As I sat there holding his hand yesterday, I thought of the many times he reached for and held my hand while we walked around the races, or walking out onto the frozen lake to ice fish. He always took me to the gas station or the parts store holding my hand. Wherever we went. I remember our father daughter dances, him holding my hand as we walked out onto the dance floor. He was my King and I was his princess. He always called me his lol princess or sis. I will dearly miss hearing those words escaping from his lips. I have absolutely no doubt this great man adored me. I miss you so much already daddy, how am I going to live the rest of my life without you? Fly high daddy, please watch over me and hopefully I can continue to make you proud. Your daughter always. ❤❤❤ Love you forever, 💋💋💋 Connie (sis) 💔💔💔 |
