Re: NHRA plans to have fans in the stands

This evening The Florida governor announced his phase 1 plan to start to reopen the Florida economy. Starting Monday he is allowing retail and restaurants to open at 25% capacity. Restaurants can have regular inside dining at 25% capacity. Outside dining is also allowed with proper social distancing. Retailers are allowed to open at 25% capacity as well. He spoke of some pro sports resuming with out spectators but no mention of any drag racing. He did mention NASCAR, UFC and Major League Baseball could possibly happen in the near future with out fans in attendance. He also said elective surgery and medical procedures could resume as there is plenty of hospital beds available. We have just over a month before the rescheduled Gatornationals so that gives some time for some more relaxation of the shut down to possibly allow spectators at the Gainesville race. Most likely they would want to restrict the amount of fans to possibly about 50% capacity. This is some good news from Governor Desantis

I'm kinda reading into it that maybe they would not allow pit access for spectators but ?

I like what I read, what I liked the most NO STUPID COUNTDOWN...do away with it permanently.....
I hope they can get started and I like that they want the fans there and want and are trying to figure out how to keep access as close as possible...

Very positive news. I hope this all works out as planned.

“(LODRS events) usually have 300 to 500 cars, and fans can be 2,000 to 5,000 per day,” Cromwell said. “It would allow us the ability to make sure we’re comfortable (to run national events).

I don't know where Cromwell has seen 2,000 to 5,000 fans per day at an LODRS event; 200 to 500 would be a more accurate estimate.

I think this is being taken completely out of context. What Cromwell said was he'd LIKE to have fans in the stands, but I don't know how that could happen and follow any CDC rules. I didn't see anywhere where it says we WILL be racing in Gainesville in June. Not to say it won't happen, but I'm not yet getting my hopes up yet. There's nothing I'd like to see more than for us to get back to the normal we had two months ago, but it appears to be getting more unlikely as the days and weeks go by.

Very true Jeff, but Norwalk is the exception rather than the rule.

I know, I just like to give the guy credit. He certainly deserves it

Sorry to say, but I'm just not very optimistic that they're going to be able to hold National events in the middle of a pandemic where we don't have enough testing capability and aren't even remotely close to having a vaccine. I do think LODRS events are a real possibility with the proper plans in place. Unfortunately, I don't think their (NHRA board) main concern are "grass roots" racers.

Jim, I don't think they care about the Pro's either, and I'm not so sure that they should. We have to remember that NHRA is a business. Because they don't have a major TV contract( in fact it's inverse, they pay), National
Events are going to be tough to pull off this year, at least until the fall. So like any business, you go where the money is. Right now that is us, points meets can be quite profitable as a "Middle Size" business. They may need to scale Glendora down to a "Middle Size" expense structure for the balance of the year. Serious salary reductions & cutting until it fits the current income
model. Indy & the World Finals(maybe in Vegas) might be all they can do this year. We can hope for more! J.R.

The vaccine for the regular flu sure stopped that!

About time the races get going again, the chances of catching the WuFlu at the track are about the same as getting hit by an errant connecting rod flying from a car and we risk that.
