1988 Cutlass Winter Project

I purchased my 1988 Cutlass P/SA Stocker from Chip Johnson a few years ago. I have always had a love for these factory giveaway cars and after years of looking, decided that this was the right one.

After I paid Chip, he asked where I wanted it delivered. My response was to let him keep racing it.

It is a pretty good race car, but has not had many updates that I can see. We have done a few things over the last couple of years. Last year we did freshen the motor. The only major upgrades were aftermarket rockers and better valve springs. The other significant experimenting that we have done has been a search for a converter that works better.

Recently, I had the opportunity to ride around the pits in the car for the first time. This car has become pretty sloppy in it's old age! I spoke with Chip and made the decision to bring it home for the Winter.

Since I recently made the statement on here that some people might want to update their old cars to keep up with the times, I feel it is only proper for me to share this project!!

(If anyone has a nice pair of plastic inner fenders for these cars, I am looking to buy some.)

This scope of this project has grown considerably. Pretty much every part of the car needs attention. The new plan is to do a frame-off on the car. I am currently collecting parts.

A couple of projects have presented themselves that have a higher priority....

I'm hoping to resume working on this car during the summer.

Will you be changing the paint scheme when it's back together?

And i've followed along on the two blue Camaro's you're working on, what's up with those?

It will be either the factory color or white. I have to figure out what the factory color was before I decide.

I will be dyno testing the LT2 intake as soon as I get time. Then back to the dragstrip. After that, I have heads and cams to test.

Right now, the 572 is top priority. It will be on the SDPC/Chevrolet Performance booth at Bradenton next week.

Look forward to watching your progress on each car, and you've got a great driver in the 572 with Steve Foley.
