National Record Postings

How long does it usually take from when records are set to when they are posted and certificates are mailed? It’s been 3 months since the Dutch where a few records were set and nothing yet.

Re: National Record Postings

It took me 6 months to get my record certificate from the last record I set in Rockingham only to say J/A instead of J/SA . NHRA could care less about record holders. I was the first one on the tear down list at Indy last year when the place was full of racers that have never been looked at. I took the same car apart the previous year and makes no difference to them. I know I’m done wasting my time and money setting records. I have a great time racing with the CCRA and the NMCA.

I called today and talked to tech department. They said they would get ahold of someone in Indy office and they will call me. Wait and see.

Same thing happened to us. My son set the D/SA record at the Indy Fall Classic in 2021. The record was posted on nhraracer.com pretty quickly but I had to make repeated calls to get the certificate processed, finally getting it right before the end of the year. Keep in mind that the records listed on nhra.com are not up to date, while those listed on nhraracer.com are.

They aren't on nhraracer.com. Three months and waiting.

A friend of mine James Boyce (westcoast on here) set a record at Firebird Raceway last year and they posted it wrong and it took about 3 months or so to get it straightened out.

Remember the old days when you ran under the record, backed it up, were tore down and then wrote your accomplishment on the side of the car? Your feat was then validated in every issue of ND. Made you a BMF. Sweet memories of days of old. Pete

They SHOULD at least post them in the National Dragster. Couldn't wait to go to the back and see what the new records were.

The record stays for two years and then it gets taken off the books, put to the minimum. You must run at least 5 tenths under the min. to set a record as well as passing tech inspection.

Just a little correction/add-on: Minimum are rather set at 5 tenths under the index instead of minimum number

So Charlie are you saying one would have to go .5 under the minimum.or .5 under the index to set the record?

That is correct, you must go at least .5 under the class minimum.

Mark Yacavone 10-18-2023 11:49 AM

Re: National Record Postings

The minimum that is posted is already .5 under the index. You would only have to exceed that to set a record.

Mark is right. It is .5 under the index to set a record. W/SA, for example, has an index of 16.65. The minimum is 16.15. So if I wanted to set a record, I'd need to make 1 run of 16.149 or quicker and then another run within the range to count as a backup in order to reset the record from minimum.

Charles Stewart 10-18-2023 01:24 PM

Re: National Record Postings

I'm questionning myself regarding the word "minimum" here.
The way I see it, if you make a run at 16,15 with a back up run in the range, you will have the record, It's the minimum required.

Hum, my answer wasn't clear at all. It's .5 under the index to set a new record when the word "minimum" is indicated.
Thanks Mr. Goodwin.

Re: National Record Postings

Charlie,
To me it looks like if a record is to be put in the books it is going to have to be .5 quicker than the index.
I never have seen the word Maximum so I would assume (yep I know what that does) a 1.30 or quicker run gets you in the books, but costs you..
Back to assuming... AHFS probably has a little something to do with the lack of record setting.

Adger, National open runs don't count for the AHFS, so if you want to go 1.30 under or quicker you go to a National Open.

If you had a bunch of gaskets and don't mind a lot of work you could paper a wall with records. Go .55 under wait a couple weeks then go.60under then a couple more and go .65 and so on. LOL It sure would be good practice .

Too bad NHRA will not dedicate at least 1 page every 3 to 6 months in National Dragster to list all the current record holders.

Instead, they believe we want to see a giant " grainy and somewhat blury" black and white photo from 1958 ( or thereabouts ) :(
What a waste of page space...

Bracket 2 has invaded Stock n SS just like our borders are invaded !! There's no goin back to the "performanced " based Class !! That is on its last breathe's as everyone got their chest pumped out doin whatever they want !! With their bracket 2 S/SS "cars" No need to go n break or set records when the MASSES don't even know what they are or what it takes to be the standard of the class !! NHRA realizes this n won't print anything about it because it's a moot point in bracket 2 !! WTF !!

We may be wrong about the .5 under the index for record minimums.
I just noticed the SS/BX and the SS/CX class Record Minimums are .6 under the Index as listed on NHRARACER.com
I also noticed there is no listing for SS/FM in Records or Index listings.
NHRARACER.com, the rule book on line is still listing SS/FM at 12.5 Lbs per Cu In.
I sure hope SS/FM is still a class.
I did notice one listed this year in Nitro Joe's stats.
Could this all just be a clerical error?

I think there was an index change on /BX and /CX, the error was that the .5 minimum didn't get changed at the same time.

Hi Edgar No need to worry my son Tom set the Ss/FM at Maple Grove last year . He got the record certificate from NHRA . It was in Joe’s book but not on NHRA web site ? He set SS/BS last weekend at Maple Grove . Hopefully he will get a certificate soon . Bert Dawson Comp/SS 3185

I got a PM from Dave Lay telling me that a couple of weeks ago he and Wesley were discussing the missing SS/FM info. Like I suspected a clerical error.

Thanks to Draginsights.com and fellow racers, National Records are going back in the National Dragster this month. Trying to make sure they are all accurate as well as the combo.

Did Tom Dawson set SS/FM record in 2022 with a 1969 Camaro 280ci?
And then set SS/BS record in 2023 with 2008 Cobalt 316ci?

The info on nhraracer.com is not very detailed and I'm trying to include year make model and engine.

I hope you all saw the new National Records page in the July issue of National Dragster. Thank you DragInsights.com for making this possible, as well as the crowdfunding of the racers listed on the page. Don't forget there is a 1/4 mile D2 Open at Rockingham in September and the highly anticipated Dutch Classic at Maple Grove in October. Class, Wally, and money at this event. NO AHFS at either so go set a record!
