X2, Cal, the hardest working racer I know. Always liked hearing the story about when you changed out the complete motor while in the staging lanes!
Happy Birthday!!

I witnessed him changing an engine at Indy when I was a youngster. I bet he took it easy today. Probably pulled a big block engine and maybe just a converter change ?? :):)

Happy Birthday Cal, first saw Cal racing at the original Mission Raceway in the early 70s, back then he had a fleet of red mid 60s Chevy station wagons, with 283 4 speeds, and a 61 wagon as well.

Happy Birthday,Cal!! You are one of the most amazing racers that I ever saw. I have always looked up to you and admired your expertise in getting these cars to work right and for all the help you have extended to all of us. Many of us would still be in the dark ages in this sport if it weren't for your insight and help. God bless you guys and continue to do so for a long time to come.

Listen to Cal tell his racing stories and adventures at the links below. One of my favorites is his drive from Washington State to Gainesville and never turning the truck off!

He probably was using the starter off of the truck to drive one of the racecars on the hauler. LOL . I'm sure I've heard stories of racecar engines being used as back up engines for the hauler.
