Paul

I don't think that has been settled yet. You can check with Tony to see if they are deviating from last year's plan.

Of course I'll support the event even if I can't race anymore. I might borrow an unproven car. We are top money to enter. Winner takes all is not in my favor.

I have decided to donate $1000 to the race purse to honor our late friend and Division 7 stalwart Diamond Jim Meador. He was a long time competitor and friend to so many in Division 7 who sadly passed away last year in August. The following is a brief tribute I wrote here on Class Racer upon learning of his passing:

Talking with him was like finding a book of short stories tucked away on the bookshelf - hours of entertainment and an endless variety of tales that you didn’t want to end.

When I was a new drag racer and trying to figure out how to put it all together Jim treated me like I was a wily veteran….not like the rookie who couldn’t find his butt with both hands. I always looked forward to listening to him with his dry sense of humor and incredible memory for detail. A co-worker of mine lived in Jim’s neighborhood, and they became acquainted through their love of cars. Jim took my friend under his wing and treated him like one of the guys too - something my friend still talks about.

On the track Jim was a force to reckoned with. I raced him a few times in his final set of events in which he drove. And while it was fun to trade a few good natured barbs with him in the staging lanes, it wasn’t fun to see the win light come on in his lane each time. The last time we went down the track in his penultimate race he dropped an .003 light on me!

Prayers for his family and friends who will mourn him here on earth. Jim just turned on the win light again - this time in God’s lane as he crossed the finish line to spend eternity with all of the great racers already there ahead of him.

RIP Jim - you will be missed.

The racers with the Best Losing Package in R -1 and R-2 will each receive $500 in honor of Jim Meador. I’m calling it “Meador’s Cheddar” and I hope somebody with a story to tell about Jim can claim the prize in each round.

Best of luck to everyone who can attend. Bring your memories, and bring your A Game. And thanks for supporting PMR Racing.

Carl,
What a great gesture! This honors our racing friend (sorry never met him) and adds a level of excitement to the event and the marketing of the event. (Sunday!,...Sunday!,... Sunday!....remember that?) Fortunately this type of thing is contagious. I hope more of us in the racing community consider similar support. Ray

None of us are pre entered but we are loading up. Paul and Stephanie Wong have their rides in the trailer. Earl Blake is making some adjustments. Paul Wong gave me a ride to play with as well. Weather looks fantastic! Best I have felt in a while emotionally. Thanks Phil and Tony in advance!

In addition to the prizes listed above

Paul Haszlauer and Mike Blackstone would like to put money toward the race-
Mike Blackstone would like to put 500 dollars in memory of Trudy Haszlauer, his good friend Paul's wife who is truly missed by all who knew her. Also 300 to low qualifier and another 200 to be determined at the race. Trudy will definitely be watching this weekend.

The amount of support shown so far for this race has been incredible. Thanks again everyone and we cant wait to see you all this weekend

Carl, before we start the Combo today. a great thing you are doing in memory of Diamond Jim Meador (and for us all here, wish you were here also brother!)

But, I do have an old story for you, I raced Jim a couple of times in the early 90's at Carlsbad, and talked a bunch with him and heard more Tham a few stories, both racing and music related, but the 1 of course I remember most, I think he would agree was most meaningful to him was that I was a third round victim to him at the 1997 Autolite Nationals at Sears Point in Sonoma, CA Summer of 1997. Leaving first my .006 to his 3 thou better. 003 (yes my last race against him he also hammered pff a .003 barn burner), and we went through the stripe together side by side to a barely very thin double breakout, he took the win with 3 thou between us, and I had a great albeit green but losing thin total package. He went on that day to win his first National Event, which made me feel a little better at the end of the day. He was a good man in my opinion, but if you raced him, you better have been up fully on the wheel and willing to tear the tree down because he was ready to always. RIP Diamond Jim Meador, and May the Lord bless you today and always Carl (and ty for "Meador's Cheddar" as a truly fitting tribute, and special thanks also to PMR for hosting us, MATSLV, all the participation from the Sponsors for the S/SS Combo, and the Las Vegas Strip for maintaining a first class facility as always, and still being alive as a racing surface. One of only a handful left in the west. Thinking of both you Carl and Jim.

I'm blessed with great friends. First Paul Wong gave me a car to race. Then Mike Blackstone with his donation in my wife's name. Thank you very much guys. A week before the race. The weather was perfect. Oops!
I quickly learned what a 2bbl hates about a 27.70 barometer and high humidity.
Dwayne Scheitlin won the 300.00 number one qualifier cash. I won a 250.00 certificate from Meziere water Pump for winning first round over last year's winner Leo Glasbrenner. (Leo red lite). I think I just missed out driving Paul's R/SA Valiant in the best wheelie world. Maybe next time! What a showing of new 170 Dodge's with 1000hp. Sure is a lot of cash floating around in the new car world.

We were lined up for first round and I noticed this new black Challenger with 8.45 dial in, lined up against Chad Langdon. We both asked the folks around the car what class. "SUPERSTOCK" Well we got that about 3 times.
Best we can figure it is a showdown car. Money, money money.
