I guess you are to young to remember the Vietnam War protests.

Before you ask. I was in the Army from June 1965 to June 1968. Got to work on nuclear missiles. Even got to go to McGregor Ranger and test fire a non nuclear version.

Totally different! Back then they were protesting the Nation's involvement in a war/police action. These idiots are protesting a group of people's right to live! And I don't mean the Palestinians.

So Biden orders the police in and the media loves him for it. Can you imagine if Trump would’ve done that? we would’ve never heard the end of it!

Stan, Thank you for your service. A protest is one thing, the destruction of property is another ….:)

Nearly 30% of the people arrested at Columbia were unaffiliated with the university and 60% of the arrests at City College involved people who weren't affiliated with that school, the NYC mayor said.
Most likely the non university protesters are from the same group of nut jobs that instigated the violence at the BLM protests.
FYI Columbia is a Right Wing University!

I was Stationed at Fort Belvoir in early 67 when the war protests were hot in DC. We were on stand by and I was amazed at the attitude of some of the guys, they were foaming at the mouth to get there are bust up those protesters!

Hi MJ!
I made off and on payments on my Snap-On Tools while I was working. But these student loans are in another league. We know a lady that went to college back in 90's. She borrowed 125 grand. No payments were needed until she graduated (although the loan continues to accrue interest), then after graduation she started making her 1000 monthly payment. She graduated in 1997. So, she's paid 27 years. She still owes almost 80 grand. She will NEVER get it paid off. These loans must have been set up by loan sharks, or credit card companies. Unlike other debt, you can't file bankruptcy on them. They follow you to the grave and will be taken out of your probate after your gone. The Biden loan forgiveness stipulates that borrowers must have made at least 10 years' worth of payments to qualify, and I'm hoping she does.

Re: College kids these days ????

I paid for my kids college degrees by saving and restoring and selling classic cars along with them having part time jobs. They worked for their degrees along with my help.
I sold my 1967 corvette big block roadster which I purchased and restored which put the daughter through college with a little leftover cash for the son.
The kids remember riding in those cars and know what contributed to their degrees.
Since I paid for the kids college instead of letting the taxpayers pay for their degrees I should be able to deduct all those costs on my taxes or have Biden buy me a replacement 1967 corvette.
Biden has a 67 corvette so he should be able to sympathize with me having to sell mine in lieu of borrowing funds to fund college educations for my kids.
I won’t hold my breath for any of that to happen.
It just really bothers me to think taxpayers are funding deadbeat borrowers with college degrees who get off with loan forgiveness which the Supreme Court ruled unconstitutional.
They all signed off on a loan and now don’t have to pay.
I don’t think my bank would be so generous.
I call it buying votes with taxpayer money by politicians or outright theft from the treasury.

Your right Rick. I didn't particularly agree with the Government bailing out Wall Street, and the Banks, and the Morgage companies. But they did. This time the little guy got some of it.

Went to work as a teamster in 1962, earned $2.96 hr, bought a 63 Impala SS 327, 4sp, in 64 got married and bought a 2 yr old 3 bedroom ranch on Long Island but today a kid would need at least $40 hr to match that but it seems that somehow for some strange reason no one ever noticed this inflation thing till now.

As for college, Germany has had free college for over a 100 years as do many other Countries but in America the Right Wing afraid of threat of an educated proletariat created the student debt crisis during the Reagan years. IMO Reagan is the one that owes you a 63 Vette!

If that's true, that just means nothing will happen to them. Just like when they "protested"
(i.e.shot cops and stormed and burned government buildings) Saint George Floyd being removed from the gene pool.
Not at all like some of the Jan 6th protestors, who got 20 years in the pen. :-(

Jeff, you left one group out on the bailouts. The car companies.
I had bonds in GM and Chrysler.
The bond holders were first in line during bankruptcies but in the bailout the bond holders were put last in line for our monies.
I was retired at the time and was taken for well into six figures when settlements were made.
GM was worst in payment made with their new stock which turned out to be less than 30 cents on the dollar on my investment.
Chrysler was better and actually paid around 40 cents on the dollar and most was in cash not stock.
From my experience I will NEVER purchase another GM vehicle.
Ford did not take the bailout and I have purchased Ford and Lincoln vehicles since the bailouts.
There were articles from GM that quoted GM had paid back all the government loans all the bond holders.
That was a complete lie. I have documentation from being a part of the debacle.
GM issued stock for payment which would need to be priced well over $100 a share to make bond holders and the government back whole on the monies.
The GM stock price is currently in the low $40 range which is a long way from making anyone whole again approximately 15 years later.
No one deserves a government bailout.
The bailouts from the 2008 debacle were all made for the ones well connected to political and government officials and all us taxpayers took it in the shorts.
I am still angry about all of it as it really hurt our retirement.
Just my experience.

By the way I also worked for one of the pipeline companies owned by Enron so my retirement had also taken a big hit in 2001 when Enron went belly up.

No one is afraid of people being educated. There is a difference between educated and indoctrinated. The university system has long since been taken over by globalist/collectivist people who despise the United States and everything it stands for.

So none of us feel our tax dollars should pay for such ridiculous harm to be done to the minds of the youth.

We all vividly remember. I remember buying my first car, a transplanted crate motor L-88 1969 Z-28 that I drove to high school with my paper route money. And paid cash. 1695.00 for a 3-year-old sports car. A few months later, after graduation, I was renting an all utilities paid apartment in the nice end of town for 90 bucks a month. Sold the Camaro, bought a full option 73 Corvette (in 74) L-82 motor, leather, the works. One week's pay made the 143.00 car payment (three year loan was maximum in those days), another paid the rent. My healthcare was paid for by my union.... I still had 2 weeks' pay to get loaded every weekend, go to rock concerts, white water rafting, nascar races, drag races, buy nice clothes. At the time I had one of the nicest stereos in town and after closing up the bars would take whoever was left and party till daybreak. Life was a BALL! And money was not an issue. Oddly enough I was working at what most considered to be the craphole of Zanesville. Essex Wire. An electromechanical stamping and assembly plant employing 1300 women and 200 guys. Fast forward to today. Not just today, but the last 30 years. Kids couldn't afford the car, let alone anything else. It's just a sad place to be a youth. We were so lucky.

She didn't read the loan when she signed it?

So the minimum payment is $1000? And she's been paying the minimum for 27 years?

Did she look at the cost of her degree compared to what the career the degree prepared her for pays?

See, the problem here is that people took out massive loans for college degrees they wanted, for careers they wanted. But they did not look at how the career pays for the loan.

The government created this "student loan crisis" by making stupid amounts of money available without the simple qualification of being able to pay it back. And in so doing, like every other time the government throws money at a "problem", they merely caused insane inflation. They also turned college into a scam. Colleges now charge stupid expensive tuition, require massive numbers of classes irrelevant to the degree, and offer classes that no one could ever hope to make living to pay for. The university system now graduates less than 60% of those who enter. More than 50% of those who enter and eventually do graduate, even after ten years, NEVER have a job even remotely related to their degree. College is a bigger scam than credit cards, casinos, and Social Security. Now "college" is staffed with America hating marxist professors, who turn out indoctrinated minions who offer practically nothing to prospective employers, or the nation.

And now, they claim to offer "student loan forgiveness". They're not "forgiving" anything. They're reassigning another few hundred billion in debt to millions of tax payers who never signed up for that debt.

Sorry, I'm now officially out of patience for being tasked with carrying the load for people who made really poor decisions.

Your dead on. I'm just an armchair QB on the subject. Never had any kids. (I found out my son was my son thru DNA about 10 years ago and he's 48 now). Never went through the gottcya of the college system and banks associated with them. But I often wonder why they don't just forgive the interest. Pay back ALL of the original loan. And you're done. I guess that won't sway any votes, but I'm a independent that votes and this plan is a far far stretch from what common sense dictates.

I think what floored me was the lists of investors and donations from foreign countries to the universities. Pretty much tells you where these kids get the information/ curriculum..
it’s no wonder the upper management wouldn’t shut it down! Loss of income!
