Vic Santos Memorial Race - June 7th

1 Attachment(s)
ASRA last a long time supporter with the passing of Vic Santos last year. He was well respected as a racer, a tuner, and even more as a person. He was involved with ASRA since its inception in 1982 as a driver, car owner, crew chief, and board member. He was a key contributor to the bylaws that we operate under today.

With the support of Boucher's Racing Engines, ASRA is honored to announce that our race on Saturday, June 7th at New England Dragway will be held in memory of Vic Santos. Tom and Mary Boucher were long time friends of Vic and his wife Judy.

Boucher's Racing Engines is contributing $1,000 to the purse and ASRA will be contributing an additional $250. The increase payout will provide an extra $650 to the winner, $300 to the runner up, and $150 to each semifinalist. For ASRA Members, this now makes the winners purse a guaranteed $2,300 to win and $1,100 runner up with round money still starting with a 1st round win.

As with prior memorial races run in conjunction with ASRA, if there is anyone interested in making additional donations to the race purse in honor of Vic Santos, please reach out to any of the board of directors.

Stickers have also been made in remembrance of Vic. ASRA will be selling them for $3 each or 2/$5. All proceeds will go towards the memorial race purse. They will be available at our rules meeting on February 8th. For those interested that can't attend the rules meeting or one of our races, stickers can be shipped with additional cost to cover postage. Please contact me at tboucher1122@gmail.com with any requests and I'll do my best to respond as promptly as possible.

Thanks

With just over 2 weeks before we open the 2025 ASRA season, here is the current outlook for the Vic Santos Memorial Race on June 7th at New England Dragway.

We've had numerous individuals contribute to this memorial race and they have to be thanked for their support in honoring a long standing contributor to the racing community and ASRA:

Donations of $1,000+
Peter Foster, East Coast Tire
Tom and Mary Boucher, Boucher's Racing Engines
Mark Callanan, Atlantic Drywall
Jim Boudreau, Jim Boudreau's Automotive Service Center

Donations of $500+
Jim Whitehead, Whitehead Motors
Tim Stickles, Gutters By Design
Mike Sullivan, Malden Machine

Donations
ASRA
Ted Mazzotta
Brian Fink
Gary Parker
Pete Merceri
Val and Deb DiGenova
George Labelle, Performance Distributing
Mathiew Beriault and the Beriault Family
Joel McMahon
Brady Jezewski
Brad Rose
Davey Farris
Dean Ribeiro
Tom Pickett
Pat Aubin, AEI Subsurface

How the money is awarded to participants was at the discretion of those that made the contributions. Some wanted their contributions to go to members only while others wanted their contributions to go to any participant. The generosity of these individuals allow the current payouts to be guaranteed! $6,700 to win for members!

ASRA Members
(Track Payout + Membership Payout + Memorial Race Payout)
Winner: $6,700
R/U: $2,900
Semi: $1,070

Non Members
(Track Payout + Memorial Race Payout)
Winner: $2,850
R/U: $1050
Semi: $310

There is still the opportunity to contribute to this race if anyone is interested. Please reach out to me at tboucher1122@gmail.com. There are still memorial stickers available as well.

Thanks

We continue to have contributions roll in for this race and the payout details have been updated above. Thanks to those all that have contributed. We are now up to a guaranteed payout of $5500 for members!!

I think the value of the ASRA speaks for itself, but here is my sales pitch on why one should really consider being a member:

Race with us on June 7th, pay $85 at the gate and then join the association before first round for $350. You are now eligible for the full $5500 payout for the Santos Memorial race. Stay Sunday for the 2nd race of the double header and pay the $85 gate fee and now you are running for $1750 guaranteed to win along with a variety of bonus programs.

Have so much fun that you want to attend more ASRA races and join us for the double at Lebanon Valley and other remaining races. 4 more races with an $85 gate fee and you are running for a guaranteed $1750 to win at each race. No need to worry about car count. Do well enough and qualify for the 16 car shoot-out (free race) that pays the winner at least $1000 guaranteed (Total purse in excess of $3k in 2024, the more members, the larger the purse). You're also eligible for end of your top ten purse that pays the season champion at least $1,000 guaranteed (Total points purse in excess of $3500 the last 14 years running, more members equals more money here as well).

That's a lot of guaranteed payouts for a membership investment that costs less than a national event entry. Always willing to answer any questions one might have.

If Mother Nature prevents the memorial race on Saturday, will it be run on Sunday ?? Or will that race be rescheduled ??

Curious as to why the Vic Santos race wouldn?t be held Sunday and the reg all star race for Sunday would be postponed to the rain date? People have left their trailers after the national specifically for this race, can you explain the hang ups with the decision?

Tim Stickles

Tim - I'll take primary responsibility for not wanting to make a final decision until Thursday. There are a lot of things we have to consider before changing schedules when we have limited dates to work with (and our rain-out date being in conflict with a national open). Knowing weather forecasts can literally change overnight, holding off on a final decision until Thursday isn't unreasonable. That doesn't mean we haven't been evaluating a variety of possibilities. I do appreciate the patience as we take one more day to finalize and communicate plans. When mother nature doesn't cooperate, any decision we make is going to cause an a** ache for somebody.

To be clear, the absolute priority is to run the memorial race this weekend and that is the goal. There's a few different ways to try and tackle this and deal with moving the "regular" race around to accommodate.

Heck, NHRA has no problem running us in the rain so why not do the same for an ASRA race ;)

Due to the threat of impending weather this weekend , the BOD has moved the Vic Santos Memorial race to Sunday . We're still hoping to get both races in . It's the tracks call for rainouts so watch the NED Facebook page . We appreciate your understanding as we deal with Mother Nature.

Agreed! I believe that this is the best possible option for the continued curve ball thrown by Mother Nature! I know a great deal of work and support went into this memorial race. I am confident that ?the professor? will be looking down smiling at all of us!

Race 1 is in the books, Poetically TJ Boucher won the Vic Santos Memorial race.

TJ and family I am sure will cherish that final win light, in honor of Vic.

TJ bested young gun Ethan Sutherland in the final.

Tim Gray shoeing the Gremlin made it to the semis against Sutherland in a .006 at the stripe affair........TJ had the bye after a heads up win in the prior round.

I think it was 46 racers for round 1, TJ is likely still celebrating!

Special thanks to Christian and Tyler Fillipone for writing a summary for Race 1 that has been posted to our website. The 2025 Banks Championship points have also been updated along with the winners of the special programs.

Check it out here: https://www.asra-ne.com/

Again, thanks to everyone that contributed and participated in the memorial race. The season opener can be hectic at times getting all the details in place, but we successfully got through the day as a group and even got the cool photo with cars and drivers squeezed in (also on our website, special thanks to Richie Coury at PTVP). Very grateful that I was lucky enough to find my way in the winner's circle at the end of the day.

HUGE CONGRATULATIONS T.J., I had a hunch it was going to be won by either a Whitehead, Riberio or a Boucher.
