Distance to tracks

Division 4 has had that problem forever. I lived in Abilene, Texas for many years and raced out of there. There is song that goes, I love you so much I would waltz across Texas with you.

Whenever we would go home to Ohio to visit family it would take us almost six hours to get out of Texas.

I wrote to Wally Parks about this and he basically said, sorry.

Re: Distance to tracks

Sarge ,
you have it pretty easy , though im sure the west coast may argue the toss .
You should try down here . Closest away track is about 10hrs so about 8 hrs before i get out of state . Next is 11 hrs or so and that 10hrs to get out of state the other way .
Everyone says nothing bigger than Texas , I have been there a few times , Aus can put it in the shade at times :)

We are spoiled in Div 3, but especially in Ohio!

The downside is that we have winter...

I sympathize with everybody out west, i can't imagine.

Re: Distance to tracks

We are out West in Nevada:

All Div7 races are under 300 for us on
easy Highways. Three are within 35 Miles.

Four National races: Two are 35 Miles / Two are about 250 Miles

That is the extent of our Stock/SS racing.

Re: Distance to tracks

Also in Division 7, here, but we live in Central/Northern California.

Nationals:
Pomona (2) - 311 miles
Vegas (2) - approx 500 miles
Sonoma (1) - 107 miles

Divisionals:
Phoenix (Double) - approx 700 miles
Vegas (Double & Single) - approx 500 miles
Bakersfield (Double) - 200 miles

Closest out of division track to us is Woodburn, Oregon, which is 630 miles.

Re: Distance to tracks

Ive always felt very fortunate to live were I do. Im in western WV, 40 miles from Kentucky so a lot of national and divisional tracks are close. Division 3 is the best for me but some div 1 & 2 are easy access. Back in the day when IHRA didnt have divisions and you had to run 16 races to chase points, living here really helped??

Re: Distance to tracks

I live near Tampa FL. Orlando track is 130 miles. Gainesville is 150 miles. SGMP is about 230 miles. Rockingham is about 600 miles. Out of division No Problem 750 miles Virginia is 750 miles. Bowling green is 770 miles. Supposedly we are supposed to get divisional in Darlington this year that is 550 miles. We lost Atlanta for national and divisional race here in D2. That was 550 miles. Also lost Reynolds at 450 miles and Galot at 600 miles. SGMP and the "Rock" are doubles this year. Just checked and Darlington is now officially on our schedule.

Re: Distance to tracks

From Houston Texas (1/4 mile) we have Evadale Raceway (non sanctioned) about 2 hours east of Houston, then we have Ennis about 3 hours north. Hennessey has a track west of Houston, but it is now a private track for Hennessey Performance. That it is!

Re: Distance to tracks

We moved to Indianapolis four years ago hard to beat for racing . I?m 20 minutes from IRP so getting to sleep in my own bed for the Nationals , Spring classic now , Fall Classic , and the Divisional race is pretty sweet . Joliet , Saint Louis , Columbus, Bowling green , Norwalk , all three to four hours roughly . Not to mention I think around eight drag strips within less than an hour or two give or take .

Re: Distance to tracks

Coming from Long Island, NY the biggest issue is crossing the bridges and dealing with traffic/tolls. Other than that debacle, 4 of the 6 LODRS tracks for us are all around 200-210miles for us. VMP is furthest 425mi, and New England is next at 300miles. Island Dragway (small bracket track in NJ) is only 107mi.

Re: Distance to tracks

Living in NE corner of Nebraska we are:
280 from Earlville
285 from Topeka (now closed)
300 from Odessa
335 from Brainerd
400 from Great Bend (hopefully coming back)
500 from St Louis
630 from Denver (now closed)
30 miles from local 1/8 track
90 miles from local 1/4 mile track
Not to bad.
Really miss Topeka closing

Re: Distance to tracks

Living in the Geographically challenged part of Canada leads to some serious distances to race. These distances are one way.

Mission BC 656 miles
Acton Montana 722 miles
Seattle Washington 791 miles
Woodburn Oregon 964 miles
Boise Idaho 986 miles
Brainerd MN 1165 miles
Las Vegas NV 1476 miles
Phoenix AZ 1745 miles
Pomona CA 1726 miles
Tulsa OK 1795 miles
Indy. 1847 miles
Dallas 2017 miles
No Problem 2394 miles
Gainsville 2715 miles

Without some really great Friends in racing that allow me to park my rig and fly in and out I could not compete.

This is what makes all the effort is the people you meet along the way!!
