Re: NHRA U Stock dump that clutch
Alright, having been through several 409 powered cars, the logical questions come to mind: 1. What did you do about the rear suspension with the single upper trailing arm that liked to tear loose from the frame at the front?
2. What rear axle assembly is in the car? A 12 bolt comes to mind here. 3. What gear ratio? 4.How about the drive shaft? 5. What is the total weight of this car with driver? 6.How much fun is it to drive? Looks like a real hoot. 7. What is the quickest and fastest time to date? Best wishes on this project. Looks like a lot of fun. |
Re: NHRA U Stock dump that clutch
I am not sure. It looks like TONS O' FUN to me.

Re: NHRA U Stock dump that clutch
I've seen that car before.Looks like he got some hp off..so 170 x 20 = 3400 + 170 =3570.
If Denny Ford can get his 62 409 down the track ,this one should be fairly safe Seems to be having fun. Looks like it runs under the index. That's all you need in U/Stock ;-) I can think of better cars for that class LOL Former U/Stock record holder ;-) |
Re: NHRA U Stock dump that clutch
64 Impala SS (maybe) 283 2bbl NHRA 170 hp. Minimum weight w/driver in U/S is 3570. (Class Racer Info)
Something different. I like it. Former U/S record holder also! Sorry Yac, I had to get that in. |

Re: NHRA U Stock dump that clutch
How about this combo in a 66 nova. R/S 283/195/164 3122# 13.95 index
Have a nice 66 nova x stocker. 12 bolt slapper bars calvert shocks drum brakes no roll bar Have 283 parts 2 barrel manifolds couple nova blocks complete 2 barrel nova core motor clutch trans. etc. Living in Denver if we ever have a track here again probrably not good altitude deal! I dont know why these slower class combos interest me. |

I was told that some of cars with the high HP combo had two control arms? Watch the tire slow mo and you will see when he shifts to second. |

[QUOTE=Greg Reimer 7376;713937]Alright, having been through several 409 powered cars, the logical questions come to mind: 1. What did you do about the rear suspension with the single upper trailing arm that liked to tear loose from the frame at the front?
2. What rear axle assembly is in the car? A 12 bolt comes to mind here. 3. What gear ratio? 4.How about the drive shaft? 5. So Greg ,i am replying only because i have intimate knowledge of those 409s.In 1964 I owned a black 64SS 409-425-4spd.-4:11 posi. I was 19yrs. old. So to address ea. issue from Greg which it sounds like he knows. But the rest of you might find interesting.1. All 64s had the 3 link.and a 10bolt.Including mine. Its what Jenkins used as a model to build some of his first prostocks. Designed to offset the engines rotational torque. 2 orig.10bolt. 65 was first 4link and 12bolt. And i saw no one ripping the trailing arm ,because ? we only had 7inch slicks.OMG leaving at about 4500 and slipping the clutch ,tires spinning -grab 2nd it 's still crabbing sideways untill you hit 3rd. A handfull on the street. Most awesome car i ever owned. See the actual car in my photo album.Raced it 1 time.13flat and one 12.95 i think. won my class but that was it. I was just learning and some kid was not going to beat the older guys. My payment was 62 a Mo. |
