another MSD ?

in the MSD wiring book I find....

regarding pickup wiring, page 13 states: the black/violet wire is negative while the black/orange wire is positive.
regarding wiring at the MSD 7 box, page 73: M+ is violet and M- is negative.
who ever had these units cut the connector off. so I have no idea which color went to which. as is I have violet to violet and orange to green the engine runs. but I dont know if it correct. why would MSD have one violet - and one violet +. that makes no sense
somebody must have a correct unmolested wiring. will you help me please.
thanks Rod in AZ

Re: another MSD ?

From what I've been told - swap the wires around, use the one that shows the most advance.

Re: another MSD ?

Have you checked the timing with it hooked up the way you have it wired now?
What is the timing?

Swap the wires...
Check the timing...
What is the timing now?

If the timing is now retarded according to timing light, put it back the way you had it before.

If the timing is now advanced leave it.

After you find the correct wiring (most advanced)
Set timing to what you would like it to be.

Re: another MSD ?

Since you didn't specify exactly which box you are talking about:

If the box is an analog box, such as a 7AL, the pickup wires should be set in the most retarded position.

If a digital ignition box, the wiring should be such that give you the most advance.
