Re: steel trailer roof rusting
It's probably galvanized steel and the galvanizing has worn away hence the rust-- Best stuff I have found is KOOL SEAL ELASTOMERIC WHITE rubberized coating-- they use this on RV /Mobile home roofs a lot--- easy to apply follow the directions--- use a paint roller to apply--- after it dries if you have roof vents and seams along the edges go back with a paint brush and reapply to those areas-- seals the roofs seeps into the seams cures leaks AND it will probably drop the inside temperature in the trailer by 10-15 degrees because of its reflective nature( its white) Get it at most RV places look online Walmart used to sell it goes for about $17-20 USD per gallon however 5 gallon is usually a lot cheaper get it on sale for about $80--- 24 foot trailer takes about 5 gallons maybe a little less--FED 387

Yes galvanize has worn off. Thanks for the info. Will look into these products.

Re: steel trailer roof rusting
For the price we pay for these trailers, I always was amazed that the trailer manufactures would not go the little extra and coat the roof with some kind of coating rather than leaving them bare metal. One of the biggest sources of black streaks also. I always coat mine first thing.
