Pure Stock Valve Springs
Are we allowed to run Replacement springs even though the are higher Pressure than the spec spring? I have searched and found mixed conversations about this topic. Thanks

Mine use Melling VS2228. Manley has one with a similar rating. Spec s allow us to use a Damper which adds about 10#. Nice thing about out Blueprinted Designs. They do not need a lot of pressure. D |

Confirmed with Mike Baker at IHRA. Hard to find a Spring with Stock Specs. So IHRA allow a few Springs that are close! They do not have a lot of extra pressure. Maybe 5 lbs at best. Dampers function is to take Resonance out of the Spring. They add minimal spring pressure. I understand IHRAs attempt to standardize a Spring Setting for Pure Stock. Would like to have conversation with them and get their thinking and feedback. PureStockDrags.com standardized on 130lbs. It covered just about every engine variation. If the engine specs had a higher Rating. Which many Higher Performance engines used. You had the choice of using the greater of the two. It reduced tech and record keeping of every car. They seem to have a huge following. Would love for them to join IHRA. Dan |

Re: Pure Stock Valve Springs
When I emailed Mike Baker about 4 months ago concerning Pure Stock springs for a 94 Mustang, he emailed me back and said to keep them at 100# on the seat, stock diameter, STYLE and size. They come without a dampener and listed as such. stock mustangs are around 80-90 on the seat, so 100 was giving it a little extra, but I understood no dampeners if it did not come that way. I would email Mike directly and verify.

Looking at the NHRA spec now...Says with Damper. Measured together are 95lbs Seat Pressure. Jeff Warren built my engine and called Mike Baker for a proper Spring. Contacted him recently looking at Manley Springs replacements and got his concurrence. Will contact him again to make sure! D |

Got concurrence from Mike.
I am ok with having a Damper. Dan |
Re: Pure Stock Valve Springs
Yours had a dampener from the factory, correct? The Mustang spring does not. That, I think, is the difference.

I do not think so but the Spec sheet says yes! At any rate both cannot exceed 100 lbs. D |
