air launcher help

This is my first car with a 'chute. There is a brass valve (made by Clippard) with a toggle on the end of it, that I believe is for charging the launcher. I know how to plumb it, but I'm not 100% clear on how to operate it. The toggle operates a small shaft/valve that allows CO2 to fill the cylinder. Correct? Do you have someone operate the toggle before the run? Or do you just turn it 'on' and leave it? What is the function of the 'exhaust port'? Could this valve be mounted inside the car so the driver could operate it?

Also, what pressure range should the regulator be set at? I'm using the launcher, a shifter, and a K&N Pro Stage2 enhancer.

Thanks for helping out an 'old fart rookie'!

Ken

I have a couple of friends who run a stroud CO2 chute launcher basically the cylinder takes the place of the launch spring. They have it plumbed to be pressurized when ever the CO2 bottle is turned on.
You may have to bleed it down to repack the chute.perhaps that's the purpose of the toggle valve?
they still use a Cable to keep the pack shut and release the chute(s)
Packing the stroud with three shroud lines and putting it In the bag is a little odd at first but they do work well.:)
Hope this helps

thanks for the reply Bill. My son, who does the majority of work on this car, was pretty sure that was the function of the exhaust port, to let the cylinder 'relax'. There's a You Tube video demonstrating how to pack a Stroud 'chute.

I'm going to set regulator at 65# give or take, unless I hear different from someone on here.

Re: air launcher help

I set mine @ 90 psi I use it for the shifter and the throttle stop (spring loaded pilot chute)
But if you pull the cable and the bag deploys and the shifter and starting line enhancer works at 65 psi then perhaps it will work fine.

Re: air launcher help

I have dual Stroud chutes with air launchers. I also have the same "toggle" you have. Its mounted on the back bumper. Make sure bottle is closed, flip the toggle to release air from cylinders. This allows you to push the launcher back into place and pack the chute/chutes. I usually wait till Im in the lanes to run, then we open the bottle and flip the toggle to "power the chutes"
Stroud said to run 120# to operate the launchers. Hope that helps

Thanks Carl, that makes sense. Unfortunately, I've sold that car and won't be able to use that info. But, if I ever get another fast car...........
Thanks again.
