trailer tires
Need new trailer tires...
Trailer has 16.5 rims, having difficulty finding that size tire, are they still making tires to fit these rims or am I going to have to replace rims also? |
Re: trailer tires
A friend here also had a difficult time with that size for his motorhome. Not one of the local tire shops had inventory and couldn’t commit to being able to supply in a timely fashion. I suggested that he change wheels to something we knew was more available which he did and was so very happy he did because on a trip with it hit something on the road and cut a tire. He asked out of curiosity at the shop he stopped at for a replacement if they had any 16.5 tires and the sales person just laughed and said good luck with that.

Re: trailer tires
I was afraid that might be the answer...

Re: trailer tires
16.5 tires have a sloped bead area that causes them to pop off the wheel easily at low pressures. As others noted, you are best off getting 16 or 17 inch wheels and tires.

Re: trailer tires
I have an older Goldrush trailer with 16.5 tires. Firestone makes a great radial tire that I have used with no issues. I use the 8.75 - 16.5.

Re: trailer tires
16.5" diameter tires are getting harder to come by. Firestone does still make them in the size listed above. We try to convert our customers to 16" wheels the few times I've seen this at our store. That is what I would suggest.
There are a ton of options in either a 235/80 or 235/85. This is also helpful if you run into a situation on the road and need a replacement tire(s). -Troy |
