Update on my foxbody
 

I got those 9X30s under Baby last weekend with the help of some cutting, a big hammer, and a pair of air bags. And once again I would like to thank everyone for the help.
So I got it to the track last nite1/8 mile. It ran 8.80s and 75 mph, got 7 runs in with the best of 8.78 and the worst 8.84. Short time 1.8s . what do you think ? The motor is bone stock, trany is a JW C4 with a 8in coverter, rear is spooled with 3:90s

Could use more gear,,,especially if you're only running 1/8th mile.

What class L,M? More gear 4.56 rear and a low gear set in the tranny. How you leaving foot brake or 2 step? With a stock motor with a stock cam in it you should be able to run about .2 the index, that is what mine did with 140,000 mile motor. with more gear you should be about in the 1.60 in sixty ft.

I think that you should be congratulated for getting your car out and down track. Another stocker at play is a good thing!

Like others have said, more rear-end gear will help quite a bit, as will a higher first gear in your trans. You may want to start with the former, since it's easy and inexpensive. Then, you may want to consider working with your computer to find a good tune.

If you're running a stock computer, you may want to consider trying a Moats board and Binary Editor, along with a wide-band. Alternatively, you could look into buying a used DFI system, which will set you back a little more dough, but may give you more options in the long run.

Thanks for all the replys. I built the car for NHRA N/SA or IHRA G/FIA.
I'm foot breaking the car for now. It's been over 40 years since my last track car. Alot has changed, as that was the 1st burn out I ever done, looks easy, but I manage to mess it up all 7 times. On the good side I did alright on the tree. I know it could use more gear, but what I want to do is to run I the rest of the season learning to drive , the 3.90s would easy on the car.
I didn't know there is much you could with the computer in this car. I would like to know more about the Moats board & Binary edtor.
If the weather holds I be back out Tue. I'm sure there is alot of little things that can be done, before I start my engine build next year. But right now lap after lap to work on me. Keep the comments comming.

If you do decide to change the rear gear or entire rearend for that matter, a 4.56 with a 30" tire is still not enough gear. I believe you would be better suited with a 5.13 in the 8.8 or a 5.14 if you put a 9" rear in.

Last nights runs, best of 8.71. I got better with my burnouts,and the air was a little better. Also pickup one MPH. It made four passes at 8.77 back to back, short times moved down to low 1.8s

slick foot I ran stick shift car for 12 yrs with 8.8 rear all strange stuff never broke any thing in the rear end. For n you could use 513 & 28 inch tire you did not need 30 inch tires use stock COMPUTER with ford extender if you can find 1 need any help just call me maybe I can help JP1428 973 427 3673 IN NJ

If the timing is still @ 10 with the "spout" out, give 14 a try, assuming good gas.

You should get a hold of Ed Hohenberg, he has a great knowledge of the Ford factory computer, and what to use to hop it up on a budget.
