Stall Question

My stall speed has gone from 5200 in 48 DA to 4800 in 2600 DA. Is this because the engine makes more or less power depending on the air? Is 600 rpm normal for this or is something wrong with the converter/trans?

Thanks for any guidance

Re: Stall Question

Fairly common. It depends upon how much a given engine is affected be weather, and how well it is tuned for prevailing conditions. The more torque is lost due to weather, the more the stall RPM drops. People that have to race heads up often change the converter and the rear gear for the weather. I have customers who have a "Denver converter" they swap in. Or a "heat of summer sticky weather converter".

Thanks Alan, it makes sense I just have never seen it on a graph before. I need to be able to log trans temps, because I often forget to look at the gauge at a consistent time. BTW, about 2 years ago you told me I should be going 1.28 60's with a decent suspension and I didn't think it was possible given the tracks I run at. IDK how good my suspension is, but I did change a bunch of stuff and it went 1.288 last October. That's a world record for this combo, but it was in world record air too, like -700.

This was a good thread about converters.
