Re: Jere Stahl in hospice

Is there an address where we could send a card to him as he was a one of a kind and I would like him to know how we feel - Bob

Sorry to hear that another of our pioneer is leaving us. Real nice man, glad that he got to enjoy racing in a Miata in road racing these past couple of years.CR

SO sorry to hear this. Jere has been one of my heros for fifty years. Absolutely one of the very brightest men I ever met. I got to play gofer for him and Bill Stiles at the World Finals here at Tulsa in 1966. He helped me win some races with my first Jr Stocker. Sold me pistons, rings, headers, "cheater cam" before they were actually legal. (It passed a tear down by Red Anderson) listed for me the gears, tires, wheels, clutch, flywheel, internal clearances to use, what jets for the carbs (each hole different) It was a '56 9 passenger wagon with 2 4bls, like he set records with. All the tune up specs, everything to make a 23 year old kid look smarter than he (I) actually was. Had that Street Hemi when I met him. I feel fortunate to have one of the last sets of headers out his door on my car right now. Talked to him well over an hour when I ordered them. He will be missed.

A real important person in the development of Stock and SS from the days many of us were only learning about Drag Racing. Back when attention to minutia in the building of a competitive Jr. Stocker was key. He will be missed. I still have my Stahl Headers in a box. The box and saying which came on the box are another part of history.
Thanks Jere for all you did to further Drag Racing and educate us as we learned.

Prayers for Jere and his family. This has got be a tough time for them. Even though they know the end is coming, it never is easy when it happens. Have they given a time frame for how long Jere has, just curious.

Like others have said, and we all know, Jere was a very BIG part of stock and super stock racing for all these years, especially the 60's and 70's and longer.

God Speed Jere Stahl. Had your sweet sounding headers on my Z11 in mid 60's.

Re: Jere Stahl in hospice

Jere took a great deal of his time to educate and mentor me, for which I owe him a debt that I can never repay. I wish that I was as apt a student as he is a teacher. I hope some day to realize the potential Jere seemed to see in me. Jere has often been pretty hard on me, but I have come to realize that it is because he believes that I was capable of more and better things than I have accomplished. I count myself to be incredibly blessed and fortunate know him and call him friend.

He spent a lot more time on the phone with this "wanna be" that he should have.

May God bless him.

Re: Jere Stahl in hospice

Saddened to learn of this...prayers to Jere, Judy, and Family. I too saw Jere for the first
time with the Street Hemi at a nearby points meet...in the Stock final he was duking it
out with that fellow from Berwyn and his Chevy II...Jere prevailed...

Jere was quite an experimenter and innovator... Many of his ideas
became products...not only with Stahl Headers..but also with early endeavors like
Stahl & Associates...and Stahl/Moroso...most of us...including myself...used these
pieces over the years...His vision of making parts specific for the Class-type racer...
(along with Dick Moroso)...will not be forgotten...
