Schubeck style lifters

Hey guys I've got some lifters here that have a snap ring at the top like a regular old style solid lifter , but with a puck at the bottom . And I've also got one here that has no snap ring and looks like it has been machined out so it will not accept the snap ring, it also has a puck at the bottom of the lifter. Do any of you know who might have made either sets of these. Is there a better one to use than the other? Its a schubeck design just didn't know how many styles he made?

I'm looking for one more of the snap ring type lifters if anyone might have one also. These are solid lifters for a BBC .842 lifter bore.

Thanks for the help .

Are you really thinking about going with the shubeck style lifter. There are a few people on here that can give you horror stories on having the puck chip or come apart and cause some serious damage. I WOULD GIVE A SHOUT OUT to find a better lifter than what you are considering. The last person I heard that hurt a motor with those lifters drives a bad azz D/S Z/28 from Louisiana. He did make a posting about it.

Well I've got 15 of them , and the tool steel lifters coated are 1200 bucks. I've also heard that the tool steel coated lifters round cams off and the coating is peeling off ,so I have no idea what to do. I have a billet cam so there isn't many choices. Was hoping some more guys would chime in on this one. I'm not afraid to run the schubeck style with the spring pressure I'm running. I've heard the failure in this style lifter is valve float and a valve lash getting loose. But I have really no experience with these lifters so thats just what I've heard. I know a bunch of people have copied this style lifter so I was trying to find out what style I might have. I'm also not opposed to buying the coated tool steel ,but for 1200 bucks I want to know its gonna work and not round my 550 cam off lol.

John Duzac lost a motor to schubeck lifters and swore never again. There are a few people on here that can give you the combination that will work wit h your cam.

Personally, I would tread softly and gather as much info as you can get as there are different combos that work. Just put into perspective the price of lifters vs a short block. Been following the build and want to see it be a success. Be patient the answers will come.

Thats where I'm at now, just trying to get as much info as I can right now and decide whats best to do.

I also thought about running a regular flat tappet cam and having it nitraded and getting uncoated tool steel lifters ,but I have the heads set up already with alot of spring pressure for the billet cam. Decisions decisions lol.

Alan Roehrich has a lot of experience with big block stockers. You might want to PM him. I know he likes the Trend PPPC lifters. As far as coatings go I believe there are others besides the DLC. and you cant run certain oils or additives with certain coatings. There are a bunch of succesful big block engine builders out there and cam manufactures that can put you on the straight and narrow.

Thanks I have been talking to Alan he is very helpful and knowledgable.

I was hoping the lifters that I have were the early style schubecks, but its looking like they are the later ones with all the problems ,but I still don't know for sure yet. Still trying to figure out what I have exactly. And I still need one.
