CLASS RACER FORUM - Banquet award winners

The ASRA held the 2010 awards banquet yesterday, Feb. 5 at the Sturbridge Host Hotel. We had 60 people in attendance on which was a less than favorable night to be traveling around New England. Hopefully everyone made it home safe.

We started our awards presentation with the ASRA special awards. The Best Appearing Car award was give to Charlie Sousa for his beautfully restored I/SA '69 Chevelle. The ASRA Most Supportive Companion Award was won by Dan Bernay, who is Steve Sparago's right hand man. The most prestigious of our awards, Peter O. Moran Sportsman of the Year was presented to 2 time ASRA champion and the driver of the L&L Auto Machine '69 Camaro, Bob Lebrun. Unforunately Bob wasn't there, so the award was accepted by his brother Dave, the winningest ASRA driver to date.

Next up was recognition of our 2010 race winners. Gary Parker, Dean Cook II, Don Pires Jr., Joe Santangelo and Dean Ribeiro were all given trophies for the race wins. Don Pires Jr. also recieved a trophy cup for his Shootout victory. Dean Ribeiro wasn't in attendance, Tom Boucher accepted the award for him.

Then on to the Top Ten and overall champion awards. John Gray did his usual exceptional work and supplied us with wall plaques for the top ten which also have photos of the indiviuals race cars supplied by Jim Knight. Each racer was presented a plaque and a check for their accomplishment. The awards concluded with the corwning of our 2010 Champion, Greg Gay. He recieved a Champion's, Jacket, an 11x 14 Photo on a wall plaque of his race car, a nice check and he gets to display the ASRA past Champions Plaque until next years banquet, congratulations Greg.

A few more things to note, the 50/50 raffle was won by Mark Markow and once again the members raffle was won by Joe Santangelo, thats 2 times in 3 years!

Our first race of 2011 is on May 15 at New England Dragway, I'll see you all there.
