E3 Racing Plugs

Anyone tried the new E3 racing plugs?

From the specs that I have seen they are the ideal plug for turbo and supercharged motors.

Looks like more hype to sell expensive spark plugs. My Mazda rotary in 1979 came with plugs with 3 ground electrodes, my understanding was the plug fired easier to the cooler electrode and was needed because the rotary fires on each side of the rotor (3 per revolution) no exhaust stroke for the plug to cool. It also had 4 spark plugs, 2 per rotor.
I may have it all wrong but that's what I remembered from 36yr ago.LOL

When I still had my shop open, I pulled more new, but misfiring, E3 and Split Fire spark plugs than all others combined. I avoid that stuff like the plague. Ditto NGK. I know guys that use the latter with good results, but we had to replace too many just installed during recent tune ups for me to trust them. We were doing 10 to 12 tune ups a day, some of it diagnosing and fixing problems from DIY guys and other shops. I have seen fewer issues with Autolite spark plugs than any other.

It's mostly all marketing. Having more than 1 point for the spark to jump is in my opinion not needed, the spark will always take the easiest path, possibly if the edges start to get rounded on one electrode strap it would merely go to the next sharpest edge (easiest path). There is I believe something to be gained in the newer high tech materials they use in the plugs but that's about it. I do agree with Ed, I've removed more of the so called hi performance plugs at work for drivebilty issues than any stock plugs, however as far as autolite...well let's just say this spring had me switching to NGK's.

I do understand that each of our experiences is unique.

First, as posted above, I see no advantage to the multi-electrode design. Reminds me of "Split Fire" and other such -------

Second, my experience with NGK is also good. At my automotive shop we use the NGK equivalent often over other brands in passenger car and light truck tune up work.

In addition, I install the proper NGK design in a number of race car combinations and to my knowledge, all give the expected service.

Finally, I do completely understand that the market holds a number of spark plugs that give the required results.

To add to this, IF the claims made were in fact reality...why isn't the O.E. using this technology? They are looking for any and all ways to try and meet the ever stricter emission standards, I'm sure if they thought there was something to it they would be using them VS designing more efficient fuel systems such as the direct injection they are currently using. Which by the way has it's own set of long term issues.

I once attended a Smokey Yunick spark plug seminar. I arrived 20 minutes early, and got the unfiltered version, then stayed for the official version. I cannot repeat here what he said about all the trick spark plugs, Ken has rules about that sort of thing. Suffice it to say that he was a fan of single electrodes with no more than minimal modifications.
