Olds W-30 Carb

I know there are some very knowledgeable people on this site who know Oldsmobile's. What I have is a Q-Jet, #7040256, 1970 W-30 convert., 4-speed. The carb has no power piston, just a cup plug in the well where the piston would go. Is this original? Any info is appreciated, Tony Tosto, #3050 B/S.

Sammy Pizzolato is usually here. Ask Him. I think he still has one of them things.

Re: Olds W-30 Carb

A lot of those carburetors were used on jet pump installations for boats. A company in North Little Rock built the installation packages - engines w/pumps attached - back in the 70s-80s. Jacuzzi is a Little Rock based company. Not sure it was the same number, but they did not have a power piston. I had several once upon a time.

Thanks to all who responded. I do restorations on GM muscle car Holly and Q-Jets, worked for Olds dealer in the 70's but never experienced this particular set up. Will run carb on test engine after restoration, wonder how the transition from idle to part throttle will be? Tony Tosto #3050 B/S

Tony, I suspect that if you have a mild ,short duration camshaft in the test engine ,it won't like it.
The W30 stick cam had a bunch of duration in it. I'm sure that was the reason for doing this.
Still surprised they did that, before HEI's were around to help clean up the mixture.
