1967 El Camino roll bar
 

Quick question - What is the normal procedure for installing a roll bar in a '67 El Camino for Stock Eliminator? To be more precise, what does one do for the rear support bars? I'm guessing a Lexan back window. Yeah, I've lost my mind hehe... :rolleyes:

Hand,

I "think" you are correct about Lexan or equivalent rear glass The rear glass we installed in the Super 10 came from S & W. It only required very slight trimming to fit perfectly.

Scroll the last page or two of Super 10 pages and you will see how we sent the upper bars high as possible. Allowed glass to saddle around just right.

If I read the regs correctly I can install a cage without the rear bars in a steel bodied pickup...that would be great.

I believe the 1967 El Camino is a full frame chassis, therefore, you can weld the main hoop and all other tubes directly to the chassis.

You should contact Mark Faul; he races an El Camino in Stock Eliminator.

Lexan or plexiglass is allowed for the rear window in a pickup in Stock eliminator which has rear bars on the rollbar/rollcage. There is a way to get by without rear bars. A rollcage meeting the complete 25.4 SFI spec which includes the funnycar cage does not have to have the rear bars. Whichever rollbar/rollcage set up is used, it must go through the floor and attach to the frame on any factory full framed vehicle.

In the process of obtaining those SFI specs/illustrations right now to see if it is a viable effort.

On my buddy's El Camino, we went above the rear window and partially through the rear window trim, as we wanted the hoop to be as high as possible. It turned out very nice.
Sorry if 67 if completely different than a 65...

Sorry guys - I should have updated this thread long ago. Roll bar is off the burner as this one is going to remain on the street for now.
