Renting an RV

Looking at renting an RV
Some of these long weekend meets.
Motels are not conveniently close.

The car and trailer is under 6000lbs loaded with everything.

Wanted to get feedback what to avoid.
What may work best?
Do not need a $milllion rig..!
Something comfortable and manageable to drive.
And take a couple guests along.

Dan

Re: Renting an RV

Dan,
Miss Nancy and I rented motorhomes for the drag races for 2 or 3 years before finally buying one. We had much, and I say much, better luck from independent companies. RV America and such folks have very small, and very sparsely equipped rigs that were all but not acceptable. And, I am not sure they would even allow you to pull a trailer!

Certainly not a thing wrong with a Class C unit, so don't be dismayed and try and rent a bigger diesel pusher (which is what you'll end up with, trust me).

We had a couple of those large plastic "totes" full of bedding and kitchen utensils and would just slide those things in the side door, load her up, and off we'd go.

Good luck - Enjoy!

Dan, try RVShare, these RV's are privately owed and most come fully stocked.

Re: Renting an RV

Outdoorsy is another popular rental exchange. No problem towing 6K trailer with a Class C on the popular Ford chassis, just beware of extra overhang past the drive axle. The F53 chassis also comes as a F450 which gives you a little better capability but most have a 5K hitch but a few are 7.5K. You probably won’t find one with a brake controller but there are several Bluetooth models which is handy for use with different tow vehicles. The RV market is pretty hot right now so don’t expect any bargain rates, hopefully things will improve next year and you might find a bargain on a used RV. Not everyone is cut out for RV’ing and most find that out pretty quick.

A most excellent point, sir!
And, I might add that as expensive as renting RV's may seem, it's a good way to figure out that equation.
