Axels and spools

Anyone know if MW 40 spline axles will fit a strange 40 spline spool?

Thanks

Yes- No they will not

That's what I thought but I wanted another opinion.

Thanks [:-cheers-:]

A buddy of mine was on the phone with Moser last week and was told that even though Strange, Mark Williams and Moser all have 35 spline spools and axles(which is what we enquired about) they are "cut' differently to avoid swapping between the brands. I'm not sure I believe that as I know of at least 1 car out there with Strange axles and a Moser pumpkin in it because he wanted to try some 4:57s instead of the 4:89s he ordered with the axles. So far there have been no problems with that car or the one that originally had the Moser setup and now has the Strange pumpkin. Go figure! Has anyone else out there ever run across this situation? If I am correct Moser sells axles and spools with EITHER a Strange OR a MW spline.. You tell them which you want and they will make it either way. As for the case or pumpkin Moser also makes their own version and either a Strange ,MW ,OR a Moser spool will fit in it. I do not think Moser has their own version of splines. For the record I am using a Strange case a Dewco spool and Moser axles in my 9 inch Ford ----Comp 387

I also currently have a strange spool and moser axles with no problems. However I bought a Don Ness housing with MW 40 sp axles, now I'm looking for a new third memebr since my factory Ford nodular has to small of bore. Came across a great deal on a Strange thru bolt case complete. But I don't want to buy it and then buy a different spool to make it work.

I think that all you will need is the correct spool to match whatever axles you are using. I really do not think it matters what case you use as long as you use the spool with the splining that matches your axles.. If in doubt call the company's tech line they will give you the correct info.. They do not care whose parts you are using but obviously they would like you to use theirs but they will tell you what you need to make it work. Comp 387

I can use any case as long as the bore is 3.250 for a steel spool or 3.812 for alum. Since I'm trying to reduce rotational weight I wanted alum. The stock nodular case won't take either of these spools.

Have you looked into "lightened" or scalloped steel spools??? Don't know if they are available for a 40 spline spool but it's worth a call---Also for what that MW case is worth you might be able to sell it and buy just waht you need !!!! Just my thought ---------Comp 387

SST4530,
I have found the 40 spline MW & the 40 spline Strange to be the same. It is the 35 spline that have the different pitch. There is a difference in the way the strange & M/W spools are splined. M/W uses a full, Completly through, spline & Strange only splines the crnter part of the spool. With a 40 spline Strange you have to have Axles that meet or butt in the center of the spool. With M/W you can use axels that have some space in the center. I have M/W 40 spline gun drilled axels in my car that are centered in the spool. I altenate between a Strange 12 bolt drop out & the 9" M/W with no problems. Hope this helps.
