“Live” from the .90 Nationals and Top Shootout

Good Morning All,

Well big wheels will be rolling to Maple Grove Raceway in a few hours for technically the 4th Annual .90 Nationals. This event jumped around a few years from Numidia Dragway in 2012 & 2013 to ATCO in 2017 and now will hit Maple Grove for 2020. Last night at midnight we had 167 cars pre-entered in all 5 classes to make this the largest .90 Nationals in the history of the 4 years. We didn’t quite hit the pre-entry quotas so we will except new entries at the gate but, you will pay an additional $20 fee (the tracks decision, not mine on that). We will have a Test & Tune from 11 to 3 today for $55.00 and gates open at 10am for parking. Tonight Maple will have their normal “Fast Friday” T&T for $25 but, if I was looking to test I’d try to get stuff in in the AM as things get a little crazy there on Friday Nights. We’ll try to keep people informed of what’s going on with updates and photos when we can but, if you want something to do this weekend and have a .90 car or Top Sportsman or Dragster you should be at Maple Grove. There is no excuse!!

As of last night we’re at 163 cars pre-entered, we didn’t hit the quota so we will accept new entry’s tomorrow at the gate. Tomorrow will be 2 qualifiers and then a high roller race. Once that is over we’ll do a practice tree race at Jeff Kundratic’s trailer. Sunday no new entries and starting off with first round.

Well, the 2020 racing season as a promoter is now in the books. I tell this story a lot at the .90 Banquets every year but, growing up with divorced parents I would spend every other weekend at my dads house. I made it a point to make sure my tote of matchbox cars and track made it to his house. Starting Friday Night we’d have qualifying runs and eliminations starting on Sunday. Who knew 30 years later I’d be doing the same thing but, with big cars. This weekend was the largest event I’ve ever done, I know some people will say 160 cars isn’t much but, when you have 4 weeks to plan it all out, find a track, get sponsors on board, promote the heck out of it and try to sell it to racers is tough. There were many sleepless nights, many phone calls back and forth with the Maple Grove staff to make sure we had it all correct, we’re there flaws of course there was but, we’ll figure out how to make it better for the next one and we will!

I can’t thank the Maple Grove staff enough for all that they do, they are the real people that kept things flowing this weekend. I know they sometimes get a bad rap when things go wrong and people beat them up over the internet but, it was the help of Betsy Schlouch Witmer, Tricia Gockley, Sarah Gingrich, Matt Manley, Robbie Robb, Mike, Kelly, Billy Kleinspehn, Bull, Dodger Roger, Robin Putt, Top End Bill B and the special guest of the weekend Steven Rhoads (Him and Dan are home watching 90 Day Fiancé) and many others that I’m forgetting. As they say there’s no I in team and these guys busted their tails to make sure everything ran smooth!

So on that note, thank you to all the sponsors, racers, crew this weekend and thank you to all the Top Dragster and Sportsman racers who came out and supported this event, I hope it was a great experience and something we can grow into the future!
Enjoy the lollipops 😉

Here are some pics from the last weekend, finally getting around to re-sizing them to post. For some reason, I have to shrink them to fit on the CR Page.

For those of you who've never been to Maple Grove, it's probably one of the most scenic drives to a track, between the trees, lakes and Amish farm land it's crazy how someone decided to put a racetrack in the middle of nowhere back in the 60's. I even includes a drive past Comp World Champ and Engine Builder Bob Kasier's shop which is about 2 miles away from the track.
