Break in oil
Hi Guys,
How are you guys doing your break in procedure when dealing with break in oil? How long are you running it? Things like that. Are you going straight to synthetic oil right after? Thanks in advance, Jamie |

Nothing special here...Castrol 5W-30 from start to end.

Re: Break in oil
Start engine, break in, drain oil, remove filter and cut open. Replace with whatever oil and filter you plan on running and go race.
The idea of an engine break in is to allow the parts to "wear" to each other. Why would you want all of those wear particles in a motor any longer than necessary? I also install neodymium magnets throughout to catch metallic particles. |
Re: Break in oil
I go through several (4-8) heat-cool-heat-cool cycles, not letting it get too warm initially because of the bearing & ring clearances. Running duration depends on radiator efficiency & amount of hard-block. Check everything, put race springs in if breaking in with softer springs, drain oil while still warm, refill with synthetic race oil and go!
As mentioned, magnets and cutting the filter open are always a good idea. I always use a magnetic drain plug for ongoing checks. Amsoil has a break-in specific oil that works well. |
Re: Break in oil
Had really good luck with ring seal using Driven BR30. It is 5W30 wt.

Re: Break in oil
Call HP lubricants in Manteno,IL, you won't be disappointed. Run it the first race or as long as you want. Their racing oil line is called Badd Azz racing oil.
