How to submit a engine?
 

As the title says. How does someone submit a engine to NHRA to be considered? I am speaking of a older combo that came in a car but it does not show it in the NHRA books? Suggestions would be appreciated.

You have to get with the manufacturer and ask them if they will do it.

You have to submit an NHRA Technical Information sheet, which is actually 4 sheets long. It details everything about the engine (more than would appear in the Blueprint Specs). It has the piston weight, rod length and weight, rod and crank and cam journals, and all the details of a stock as produced motor. Aftermarket allowed items are not on this sheet. Basically you need a motor to disassemble and pour runners, chamber, detail carb measurements etc. I would inquire of NHRA Tech and see if there is any interest and why. You probably need to know the factory guy for your particular brand. I would think if this body platform is not currently run, you will need details on that too (weight, wheelbase, track etc). This document is referred to as a TI Sheet. It is time consuming, not that difficult, and you seem to never find everything you need. Even though many things are allowed (brakes, pistons, & lots of others), the original stuff goes on the TI Sheet. Hope this helps. Gump is right, except the factory guy can just concur (because most of them will not take the time on an older combo).

If it were a chevrolet, not sure if he handles all G.M. products.
I have heard of a tech guy at gm performance named
Roger Allen that may be able to help. He seems to be the bridge
between chevy and NHRA. Last year I was talking to a guy
working with a somewhat obscure chevy engine combo and from
what I understand Roger helped him put together specs
for NHRA. Probably not easy to get done but if you can may
be well worth the effort. Best of luck. Randy

Thank you all for the info. What if the engine was in the book for another body style but not the one you are claiming? But, in reality it was available in that body style, not a rare thing just not sought after. Is the process the same to get it accepted? Or do I have to find some original literature to submit? Thank You all again.

I had this same scenario come to mind about 15 years ago when I first thought about doing a Class car. The thought was to run a 1982 or '83 AMC Spirit with the carbureted 2.5 GM Iron Duke engine and a 5 speed they used in those years. Being uninformed, I even acquired a suitable car to follow through with. But once I ordered the Classification sheets by mail back then, found out neither year was listed in the guide and that dream got scrapped.
What are the hopes of something like this combo ever getting approved in today's NHRA world? Both the engine and the car body are already fully documented in the guide in different aspects. But good luck finding an AMC liason to help grease the squeaky wheel if it has to come to that!

The same thing happened with the 68 Shelby GT350 Mustang. The GT500 is in the book but not the 350. It had an aluminum intake with a 600 cfm Holley 4bbl and an optional Paxton supercharger. Rated at 250 hp for a 302. 1,557 made but none in the NHRA book.

If it is a AMC product, you will be ignored by NHRA. I know
