NHRA Div. 3 Columbus race...

The event flyer shows the run order as Super Stock 1st then SC then Stock.
Most of the time I see either Stock or Super Street come out first.
Anyone know if that run order is correct or a misprint ?

Forecast says 60% chance of rain for Sat. and Sun.
Hmmm.....

Not a good start here at Columbus, Super Stock out first and let's just say that the track wasn't up to snuff so with ominous black clouds approaching they sent a major portion of the cars back to the pits and began to scrape the track. As MR. Nssracer posted earlier ...then the rains came and we are still experiencing a small rain shower.....Man, I sure miss Mike Delahanty reporting.......

Why wasn't the track already scraped? Someone should have told them they were having a big event this week.

A small rain shower turned into a pretty large one for a while. Just stopped raining maybe 15 mins ago. They announced they're going to start from the beginning with SS, no runs made earlier will count if I understood correctly.

MJ, yea I miss being there to visit with all my friends as well as the reporting. There was a time a couple of weeks ago where it looked like I would have the engine back in the car and make it, but the wrong Pistons showed up. They came back again earlier this week and ....... Wrong again. But with the heat and other drama you guys are starting the race weekend with I'm not feeling so bad right now. Pistons Are due back on Monday and everything else is just about ready to go back together. Looks like you along with Andrew are handling the reporting just fine. Stay cool. I hope to see you guys soon.

5:00 and Stock Q1 has just finished. A few cars spun but most appeared to have no issues. The Top 16 courtesy of D3TV.

Super Stock Q2 starts off Saturday with 30 minutes of downtime to clean up an exploded rear axle on the starting line. It requires a full 5 alarm clean up with track personnel, track cleaning Zamboni machine, roll back, jet dryer and power brush tractor.

Stock eliminator finished up it's second and last qualifying run around 1130 this morning. The round appeared to be very uneventful and the track in good condition. It was surprising to see how many cars ran right on or with in several hundredths of their first run yesterday afternoon. Here are the top 16 qualifiers courtesy of the 3 here are the top 16 qualifiers courtesy of the D3TV.

Here are the final Stock Q-Sheets and ladder courtesy of John Nechiporchik.

There is a first round A/S match-up between the cool 65 Corvette of Brett Saurbaugh (still has the IRS) and Paul Carr in the Checkmate Camaro.

Here is something I've not seen before - downtime to fix a window in the tower that was at risk of falling out. As of about 2:45 SS R1 is ready in the lanes followed by SC and then Stock.

Just about perfectly on schedule at 3:25 SS R1 starts.

What engine combo is this? And is it a SS car or Stocker running in SS?

Re: NHRA Div. 3 Columbus race...

Some stats from the first 2 rounds of Stock. I've grouped the reaction times by winners and losers.

In round 2 there was a run where if Tru-Start were in place the first red light - or slower car - would have won.

Round 1

Win --- Lose
Red 1 --- 5
.000 5 --- 0
.010 5 --- 3
.020 3 --- 3
.030 7 --- 2
.040 2 --- 3
.050 3 --- 6
.060 5 --- 2
.070 2 --- 2
.080 2 --- 1
.090 1 --- 1
.100 8 --- 7
.200 0 --- 5
.300 1 --- 0

Better light wins – 27 of 40 runs
.030 or better wins – 20 or 44%

Round 2

Win --- Lose
Red 1 --- 6
.000 0 --- 1
.010 2 --- 1
.020 2 --- 2
.030 1 --- 1
.040 3 --- 2
.050 4 --- 3
.060 4 --- 0
.070 1 --- 0
.080 1 --- 3
.090 1 --- 1
.100 2 --- 2

Better light wins – 12 vs. 9
.030 or better wins – 5 or 23%

Re: NHRA Div. 3 Columbus race...

Thanks for sharing your research on this Mike. I always wondered what the average "good" light was in this racing arena. I think we all know from experience that the better light generally wins, but this chart really highlights what it takes to go rounds and do well if you want to stick around until Sunday.

Even so, it looks like you better know what to write on the windows too, or you're toast.

Mike, How many of the losing redlights left 2nd? With First or worse by compulink being available, just curious

And I guess the other question, of the 1st leaving redlight, how many had less than a .500 handicap?

ahh....ummm....this sounds too much like one of those math problems that starts with "two trains leave the station......."

How about this bit of trivia: In round 2 there was a run where if Tru-Start were in place the first red light - or slower car - would have won.

Not what you asked - but maybe it will buy me some time.

Did Julie Biermann just win Stock at this race, with her Pontiac powered E/SA '68 Firebird ?

I can't find anything about it. And the D3 TV pic is fuzzy on my screen. But, I think the run starts at about the 9:03 mark. And it appears that her win light came on.

Would someone who knows, please confirm, if this info is correct ? Thanks !

This is a great win for Julie & old fashion Pontiac power ! Congrats the Julie and everyone connected with the car ! :)

Congrats to Julie and Tim, in only her second season behind the wheel of a race car.

Looks like we'll have to call her :

They don't utilize the left hand side of the track, so you won't see people in the stands viewable from D3TV.

We actually had it at one of our events at Virginia Motorsports Park the other year... a door car kicked up a rock in the burnout box and broke a 3rd story window in the tower. Took quite awhile to break out the remainder of the window and clean up all the glass that landed right there at the tunnel/ready line. The first two stories of windows were safety glass, but not some of the 3rd story.

Kind of serves as a reminder for anyone parked out where there's any gravel or debris: Please clean out your wheels wells and rocker panels in the staging lanes! It always amazes me the funny looks I get from people. I clean the car out every time, unless it's Norwalk, Bristol, etc. Any debris in there could end up under your tires when you launch. Sometimes people think a track is bad when they're actually doing it to themselves!
