0.0000 mov

Randomly looking through DRC results.....
Last week the LODRS race in Sonoma Rd 1 of S/S
Back to back pairs with a 0.0000 MOV
Wonder if that has ever happened before........

Re: 0.0000 mov

The MOV of 0.000 is statistical. In both races, both cars had identical "time on the track" figures. Hall left 0.031 before Lamb. Both cars had identical beam to beam times, but Hall won by 0.031. That's the true MOV. Zero inches? No.

Someone correct me.

Also weird in that SS round one was the last seven pairs in a row all were double breakouts. A rare occurrence as well.

two no shows followed by two red lights and actually 8 of last 9 pairs DBO - 16 guys/cars missed it out of 18.

Strange stuff - I am telling you.

BTW - somebody was not "identical" they lost and the other car won. If it was really a tie - they both would have been in second round - statistically speaking of course - LOL

Maybe we can argue how the winner is picked by the computer (out to the hundred thousandth perhaps) or go back to the old rumor it is always the left lane. Have to ask the participants since actual lanes unknown on DRC.

Afraid I have to disagree here, Hall had a better reaction by .031 but gave all of it back by running .031 further over his dial in, therefor the MOV was .0000 a statistical dead heat.

No they got to the finish line at the exact same time ( to 4 decimal places) the only time the 1st to finish differential and MOV tome don't match is a red light or breakout situation.

There's no such thing as a "dead heat" and adding the word "statistical" doesn't do anything to change the fact.

Comp-U-Link timing systems record, (internally), to the millionth of a second, (0.000000). The Comp-U-Link timeslip displays to the ten-thousandth of a second, (0.0000). Therefore, any "win margin" displayed as 0.000 can be as large 0.00009.

In the first example, that would be two-tenths of an inch, (0.20091 inches).

In the second example, that would be slightly less than two-tenths of an inch, (0.19987 inches).

There is no disputing that you are correct but we use the terminology all the time when referring to a MOV of .0000 because the time slip doesn't read "close as a split frog's hair!" I apologize to the offended parties for using such idioms to describe the outcome of these races.

Bret I agree that the Compulink goes out further than 4 decimals and someone did actually get there 1st, I was only pointing out that 2 of these back to back has to be a 1 in a million scenario. I hope one of those 4 guys bought a lotto ticket. I have only seen those 4 zeros on the announcer screen a handful of times in the thousands of pairs I've seen run.

It's not unheard of...and I can do you one better.

In 2013 at a track using an ETS timing system, I won a round with a 0.000062 margin and a friend of mine in the next pair lost with a margin of 0.000007!

Re: 0.0000 mov

Working from memory (and that's shaky at best) the fourth digit was a 7, as in .0007. And on the 1320go screen, the margin was less than an inch.
But then again, I could be wrong. This for the second pair. As there was the double breakout on the first pair, I glanced at the bottom of the screen, but don't recall the last digit. There were also two races in the Super categories that went to the fourth digit, during my time on the mic....a 9 and a 6.
