“Live” from our Bread basket tour!!
Welcome to St.Louis and the beginning of our tour of the middle of the good old USA!! We are in stacking here for the Mello Yello national event!! We are around #10 or so I think but nobody is numbering us. Stacking began at 7 this morning and we arrived about 12:30 and rigs are lined up on the road that runs beside the track as in years past. Hopefully someone will start numbering soon.
Our plans are to start here, then Great Bend, KS next week for the double Div 5 divisional, then Dallas national, then Noble, OK for Div 4 divisional, then finish off back here in St Louis for Div 3 divisional !! So if the car cooperates and everything else goes well, we will be gone for about a month and take in 2 nationals and 4 divisionals!! More later!! |
Re: “Live” from our Bread basket tour!!
What Patsy failed to mention is we are in need of recommendations of good local places to eat. I always enjoy eating great food with a local flavor and trying some of the local dishes that are not local bill of fare where we live. And fun and interesting places to go and see inbetween races.
So let's hear what and where we need to go! |

Re: “Live” from our Bread basket tour!!
Sounds like a fun trip. Shouldn't be too hard to find good places to eat. Enjoy the sights and have a safe trip.
Hope the car exceeds all your expectations. You know some final rounds would be awesome. |
Re: “Live” from our Bread basket tour!!
Word of caution---HEADS UP---- If you go out driving around in either East St Louis---ILLINOIS or ST Louis--- MISSOURI--- ESPECIALLY AT NIGHT be extra careful lots of bad neighborhoods in both areas--- you can get into trouble real quick --low income and desperate folks will think nothing of robbing you---If you are not sure about an area ask BEFORE you go!!! Not trying to scare you just telling you like it is--Have fun good luck at the races BE SAFE!!!---FED 387

Re: “Live” from our Bread basket tour!!
Thanks for the warnings!!
There are quite a few rigs that have pulled in this afternoon ! They are supposed to pull us in starting at 7 am. I haven’t seen any NHRA officials around here today. Still no numbering! There are 2 lanes and supposedly there are going to take turns with each lane. I guess we will see in the morning! |
Re: “Live” from our Bread basket tour!!
Mr Larry & Mrs Patsy,
When you get to Ennis, there is a really good BBQ place Pit Stop just a couple of miles from track just west on main highway. There are several good mexican restaurants in Waxahachie and in Ennis as well. See you guys at both Nationals! Don't get your hopes up for Noble, OK! |
Re: “Live” from our Bread basket tour!!
Kendall’s in Noble
|
Re: “Live” from our Bread basket tour!!
Good luck guys and I look forward to the reports and racing action although I will miss you all here in the Southeast flood tour.

Re: “Live” from our Bread basket tour!!
Larry & Patsy, It's seems like forever since you did an "on the road" tour thread. I've always liked them.Really looking forward to your reports, racing and otherwise.
Best of luck and be safe. Get a wally or 2. Walt |
Re: “Live” from our Bread basket tour!!

Re: “Live” from our Bread basket tour!!

Re: “Live” from our Bread basket tour!!
In Noble try Big Daddy's barbecue. A little hole in the wall but awesome. Chris and I went several times the week we were held over. Between the Country Dogs boil and Big Daddys we ate well that week.
|
Re: “Live” from our Bread basket tour!!
YAAAY! The Hills are on the road-looking forward to your live reports, good luck, win something! heck win EVERYTHING!
|
Re: “Live” from our Bread basket tour!!
There has been a steady flow of rigs coming in all day!! It is now time for beer and cheese balls! Hey it is 5:00 on the east coast!!
|
Re: “Live” from our Bread basket tour!!
Lombardo's Trattoria.
|
Re: “Live” from our Bread basket tour!!
Well we found a place to not go to in St. Louis , actually Collinsville. Zappatos! Food was average and service was terrible! It had good recommendations but did not make the grade.
Stock rolls out at 8 in the morning. Everyone gets 2 runs then done for the day! I will try to get pics then! |
Re: “Live” from our Bread basket tour!!
In Noble, breakfast at Tiffany’s across th estreet from Kendal’s ,biscuits/rolls are 4-5” tall with big mushroom tops...a little bit of a drive but about 25 miles from the track in Ennis,in Cedar Hill,is Babe’s. It is a chicken house buffet with the best fried chicken ,the side are all you can eat,and they are the best only second to mama’s-you won’t leave hungry!.....Victor

Re: “Live” from our Bread basket tour!!
It rained pretty good early this morning! Not sure if it will rain again, but not starting at 8:00 am.
IF and I mean IF the weather forecast is correct, we will see 7 second Showdown run(s) tomorrow! |
Re: “Live” from our Bread basket tour!!
No announcement yet as to start time but I don’t hear the track dryers anymore. Still really humid and about 70!
|
Re: “Live” from our Bread basket tour!!
In the lanes and it sprinkled again.
|
Re: “Live” from our Bread basket tour!!
About 3/4 of stockers ran then rain. I think the rest are still in the lanes
|
Re: “Live” from our Bread basket tour!!
53 stockers.
|
Re: “Live” from our Bread basket tour!!

Stock is done for the day! Final qualifying and ladder should be up soon!
Lots of spinning in factory showdown !! |
Re: “Live” from our Bread basket tour!!
For great food and huge servings, you need to try Lotawata Creek at exit 12 on I-64 in Fairview Heights IL. You will not believe how huge the servings are until they set your meal in front of you.

I was going to recommend that place since I've had the same experience as you. But the two brothers who owned the place got convicted of tax evasion a year or so ago - seems like there was jail time involved also. So I was hesitant due to not knowing how their absence may have affected the place. There aren't too many great places anywhere near. The city of St Louis is imploding with crime, though there are a few blocks here and there which have good places and are reasonably safe. The current trend has the junkies focusing on vans (they love a band's van parked outside the venue), RVs, and out of state license plates at touristy spots. Smash and grab at any time of the day or night. The Hill is excellent for good Italian as long as you stay away from Cunetto's and other tourist spots. There are some nationally rated BBQ places also. Google Pappy's, Bogart's, and Sugarfire Smokehouse. The Soulard area just south of downtown near the AB brewery has some good places, but it's a very old section of town and parking can be a pain. Check out almost anything there; Tuckers' has very good steaks and chops much cheaper than a steakhouse. Not sure how they do it, but nope, no tenderizer or marinades - just good beef properly cooked. For any of these places, you're probably looking at 20-30 minutes from the track depending on time of day. |
Re: “Live” from our Bread basket tour!!
Thanks everyone for all the recommendations!! We stayed in tonight waiting to watch super stock run and now they have cancelled eveyrthing until 8 am tomorrow with E1 beginning with stock. I think we were the only ones who got our 2 runs today. They were live on TV and then something happened and they cancelled all sportsmen tonight.
There are no speakers out here at the round track and the radio did not work until mid afternoon and some people can't even get the radio to come in in their pits so we have been short on information all day. |

Re: “Live” from our Bread basket tour!!
Well we made it through round 1 against Bo Butner in a double breakout race!! It was .20 faster this morning than yesterday !! 60 degrees and cloudy today!
Jerry Bennett about turned his over against Randi Lyn in a heads up this morning. I wonder if wheelie bars may be in his future?? Randi won with them both out of it at the end!! I sure hope someone got a picture of Jerry’s car!! They have called top dragster up and we run 2nd round after them. Scheduled for 4 rounds today! |
