Racing the Family Car
I'm sure everyone has done it, at least once.
Sneaking your mother or father's car out to the track, for a little 'accelerated performance test'...:p In 1975, my father gave in and bought my mother a new 'luxury car' instead of a 'performance car',,,,,,a 1975 Chrysler Cordoba. A maroon-colored, 'Crown Edition', with a maroon-colored padded Landau vinyl-roof. Even maroon 'semi-crushed velvet interior'. My father skipped on the 'fine Corinthian leather' interior package. Looked like a 'semi pimp mobile'. Equipped, with a 'semi-rare', 400/235 HP 4-barrel (option), with dual-exhaust and with a 3.23 Sure-Grip Posi rear. Well, it was taken (without approval) to the drag strip,,,,,, No class, just Bracket-racing in 1975.,,,,, We hit 16.60's with it,,,,,,,a 'one-time event',,,,,,,, |

Re: Racing the Family Car
Dennis,
Just me and my friend,,,,,,,,no family members,,,,,, The only thing I had to do at the track, just pop-off the custom-deluxe wheel covers, and remove the air-cleaner top. Don't think the H78 x 15's spun at all, when I left the line. Can't remember if it was a 'Lean-Burn',,,,,,,,??? |

1969...
1963 Ford Fairlane 260 cubed, 164 horsepower, 2-barrel,,, My friend took his mothers car to the track one Sunday. On the way to the track, the muffler fell off. He stopped, and threw it in the woods off the side of the road, figuring he'd pick it up on the way back home. At tech inspection, he was told he had to have a muffler attached to the exhaust system to run stock,,(P/Stock) He found a guy with a used Thrush Muffler at the track, and bought the muffler for a pack of Marlboro cigarette's. Rigged the muffler up with wire, and it made it through one time-trial. Ran somewhere north of 18.00. For class, he was an Only Car Trophy, so he ran alone... In the Trophy Run,,,,,, the muffler fell off just as he got near the traps, and he ran over it with the back tire, flattening it like a pancake.. He got DQ'd,,,,,, |
