SFI pants for Stock
 

I was just looking thru my 2009 NHRA rulebook, and it appears that all the Stockers in M/S and higher will need SFI approved 3.2A/1 pants in addition to the jackets already required. (I thought that this was not going into effect until 2010) Has anybody ever bought these pants yet? All the pants that I have seen before carried the 3.2A/5 designation, that is the same rating as the triple layer jackets that are required on 9.99ET and quicker cars. I have yet to see any 3.2 /1 pants. Also, it appears that I need to wear these pants when racing my 12 second M/Stocker, but in my 10.0ET 132mph bracket car, all I need is the jacket, and the SFI pants can stay in the Mustang. Does anybody else find this a bit odd? Even in Super Street (10.90) pants are only required when a car is running 135MPH or higher. The M/SA record is a 11.61, the M/S record is slower than that, yet both classes (and all the higher classes) require the jacket (and pants now), but bracket drivers don`t need to even wear a jacket until their particular car hits 11.49 or quicker, and pants are not required until getting into the 9`s..Seems a bit lopsided to me.:confused:

Rory i read that also i just missed the cut with my o/sa mustang, i don't think they make them in my size?

The SFI pants rule in Stock (and SS) probably came about because some of those racers were wearing pajama bottoms instead of real pants.

I too noted that the "updated" requirement has not caught up with bracket categories. The pants are easy to get. I got a couple pairs of RJS. You can find them on ebay and distributors like Wesco. They will cost about $50.

Looks like down in N-O/SA we still get to wear sweatpants... Hell, I will still be wearing a stock seat belt in our car as well...

Yep, NHRA really impresses me with their brilliance. You can use a 50 year old stock seat belt in some classes, but in others, your belt better not be over 2 years old.
Every high school physics student learns that electrons flow from the anode to the cathode. They then learn how to tell which is + by drawing two + marks for eyes on an outline of a cat. Sooooo, NHRA demands that the kill switch be on, you guessed it, the positive side. If the reason for the "incident" is an accident, and you hammer the switch location, guess what. The terminals ground on the car body and make nice sparks to meet up with all that nice leaking gasoline.

I`m actually impressed that they`re implementing this rule for some of the middle classed Stockers. Maybe they`re making up for the fact that until a couple of years ago you could run an 8 second Super Stocker with a 3 layer jacket only,no neck collar,no gloves,arm restraints or pants. That always used to bother me when I ran S/C,drove with all of the safety equipment on,and a driver of a 7 second turbo Super Stocker could wear sweat pants. Never made sense to me. But now,since all I drive is a slow Stocker again,I`ll continue to wear my pajama pants.

I got my 3.2A/1 pants at Mopac in Calgary. They are made by RCI & cost me $ 65.00.

Rory, Jegs sells SFI 3.2A/1 pants, I like the G-Force pants over the Jegs brand and G-Force sells 4 XL jackets, Tom
