making the galaxie fly

Hey all, I am new to the forum and own a 64 Galaxie 500 coupe that I want to take Stock Eliminator racing. It has a 289/2bbl/3 spd. stick combination in a total no option chassis. Who are the best people to talk to about Ford small block class engines? Rich Groh is in my area, but there isn't any phone information for him. Thanx in advance for the suggestions.

The quickest / fastest 289 in all the land (SS) is Kip Martin and he builds out of his own machine shop in Phoenix, AZ.

Thanks for the response from the both of you. What chassis is Kip running and what kind of times is he getting? The 352 sounds interesting, are they hard to find now?

Actually Ray Scardelli's Probe is the baddest 289, its been some 9.70's i belive, I know its been a .89. He uses B&B Performance in the N.J. area.

the 352 with alum heads is GREAT combo, I would do that vs the SBF in your case

Back in the day Kip Martin and Jerry Pruitt had the "Whale Cars" flying -- Jerry's 64 Custom 300 stick car was faster than Kip's -- BTW NHRA liked this combination so much that they slapped 10 hp on it and both cars disappeared--My understanding is that the HP factor has been eliminated and the 352 4V is once again rated at 250 hp--a great combination --

Kip's is a '64 1/2 Mustang notch with the 289 / 225 / 210 HP. He holds the SS/L record:
SS/L 10.13 129.51 03/08/08 Kip Martin - Phoenix, AZ
'64 Ford Tucson, AZ
Look for quicker ET's in 2009 from Kip...

I looked at the 352 with another racer and it looked REALLY good. And I would agree with the others, for your boat the 352 would do very well.
Never thought about it as a SS/GT...wow!
