69 Nova seats
Looked at a Nova Stocker today. The car has a bench seat and could not go back any further due to the roll bar rear crossbar. I also saw another Nova stocker on RJ that had bucket seats. I would think I could pick up a little more room w/ the buckets....but were they available on the Nova in 1969? Also, If I recall correctly, buckets were heavier than a bench....
I really liked the car, but the fit was a bit tight as I'm 6'3" The other thought was to re-trim the seat and remove some of the foam to pick up a little more room. Any thoughts/suggestions???? Thanks, John |
Re: 69 Nova seats
John,
Yes, you could get a '69 Nova with bucket seats. From my observation you may gain a little more head room as you will sit a bit lower. Don't think you would see any difference in the leg room area. After picking up the pair of bucket seats versus the bench, the bench seemed lighter. If the car is nice, you like it and you get it for a good price, buy it. When you DO find some buckets, be prepared for a shock as to the price. I have seen sets go for over a grand with the correct seat tracks. |
Re: 69 Nova seats
Thanks, Todd. The rule book is a little vague ....it says "factory type" front and rear seats. The seats in the one ad on RJ in the 69 looked like a later model seat....had side bolsters etc like a late model GM vehicle. Any help on clarifying this?

Re: 69 Nova seats
Why not just cut the crossbar out and put a new one in that has a slight curve to allow the seat to go back further. This could be done cheaper than a pair of seats.

Re: 69 Nova seats
I had the same problem with my car. When we built it we put the hoop to far forward and the seat could only go so far back. We moved the cross bar back about 4" and bent the ends at 90 deg. and reattached it to the back side of the hoop. Double check this in the rule book, but we used 1 1/4 tubing for the new cross bar. Now the seat can go all the way back to the end of the track. Just make sure your head is not under the hoop.

Re: 69 Nova seats
Modifying the crossbar is an alternative. I think I can pick up about 4 inches of rearward movement w/o violating the rules. I'm still curious about the seat rule regarding "factory type"front seats.

John,
Tried finding the Nova you were talking about on Racing Junk.com but had no luck. If you could supply an ad number I could maybe answer your question. |

The bucket seat car is RJ#1376591....I've been in e-mail contact with the owner. The car I looked at in Ohio is almost an identical twin to Rick's. Decisions...decisions.......
