Launch RPM question
 

Ok automatic guys, on a vehicle that produces very little low end torque and makes the most power in the upper rpm range where is the ideal launch point. Should I leave low to allow the convertor to flash or high to be closer to my peak power?

Yo Smitty, the harder i leave with my Cleveland the faster that thing runs. The only problem is tring to keep the thing from flipping over LOL...Email me and ill tell you the leave point on my car..

The leave rpm on my car does not really effect the ET. Launch Rpm more effects the reaction time. I will chip up to tighten up the RT and lower the leave rpm to get a slower RT. Launch RPM on my car is usually around 4000 +- with the 327. when I had the 350 in the car I left at 3200. Did you get your trans freshened up? What did they find wrong with it? Are you comming to Immokalee for the IHRA race?

Mike,

High gear was fried in it, they couldn't explain why I was able to move with the condition of the high gear set. Waiting for the trans guy to finish it up this week.
As for Immokale, I don't think I will be able to attend that, I am probably going to stick to some of the closer SSSA races close to home (SGMP, Valdosta, Lakeland, Gainesville) if I can get some assitance I might try to one of the NHRA Div 2 races. My biggest concern now however is to get this thing dialed in, we don't have clean pass on it do to the transmission problems I didn't know I had.
Have you finished up your brake upgrade?

Yes I did get the brake upgrade finished up. It worked out real nice. It took 60 lbs off the car which should get me down to the min wt. 3120. Now I wont have to worry about getting stopped at Lakeland and Orlando. I also worked on my front end. I had some horrible bump steer going on. I got that corrected. The car should handle real good now. The Immokalee race is a real fun event. Usually not a real large car count. The track is good and well run. Similar to a SSSSA race. Jay and I are going. Hopefully we will see you there.

Mike, what kind of car were you working on with the bump-steer problem , and what changes you made to reduce/improve that condition. I run a B-body mopar and experience many idler arm failure and even major front end components

Frank, fix the problem and then stop doing monster wheel stands and your problems will go away. lol

I have an early camaro SS/IA. I had a large oil pan on it that I had to lower the drag link to clear the pan. That caused the bump steer issue. Now I have an oil pan that clesrs the steering in the stock location. I re aligned the front end and checked the bump steer and it was less than 1/2 inch.
