Towing question number 1001
I know there has been a lot of questions here lately on towing .Here is my question ,I have a chance to buy a 1997 Dodge 2500 with a V10 and a automatic trans with a towing pakage.Does anybody use one to tow with,if so what kind of gas mileage do you get.Are there any mods you can do for better mileage.

Re: Towing question number 1001
The V10 has plenty of power and torque for towing. Gas mileage won't be great because it is 488 cubic inches. They do tend to have intake gasket problems at the coolant passage at either end of the head between the intake and head. I prefer a Cummins but if the deal was right, I could live with the V10. I almost forgot, be VERY careful using the overdrive when towing as that is the proverbial weak link. A manual transmission would be a better choice.

Re: Towing question number 1001
Thanks for the reply Ronnie,I make a good living rebuilding them.In the last two weeks we have had a run
on Dodges, even rebuilt an 07 with the new 48RE in it, and it only had 47,000 miles.I hear this all the time from customers, the salesman said I can tow it in overdrive. But he forgot to tell them if you do, you will be seeing me sooner then you thank. So I guess, since I only got one reply, no one uses a Dodge V10 to tow with. |
