Front Disc brakes are a "drag".......

I'm running a first gen Camaro with Wilwood's up front. They have some drag to them. I thought about installing some kind of heavy return spring between the pads but I'm afraid that will retract the pads and make the pedal too soft.

Any suggestions how to cut down on the drag?

There's something wrong if they have much or any drag.

What master cyl. are you using? Some master cylinders have a pressure residual valve. If there is a residual pressure valve in it then remove it. They hold a slight amt. of pressure on the system that allows quicker pedal response and also causes drag. Same thing can happen with a stock proportion valve.

The master cylinder is a good place to start looking . I also found the hoses going to the calipers and the one going to the rear end might look good on the outside but are plugged on the inside. We also changed the master cylinder and removed the stock proportation valve and replumbed the lines and that fixed our problem. I know this sounds like a lot of work but being able to stop on a short track is priceless. Kenney Kelley

The MS is a GM unit for disc/drum. Might have to see about changing that out.

i just removd the wilwood light weight front brake it out for the solid disc set between my chevelle and the 68 camaro i am working on. when i bled the the fronts the right side was sticking hard and the left side had a slight amount of drag. i just put a strange master cylinder and reinstalled the line lock and a couple of new russel braided lines at the caliper. this brake setup is only 2 seasons old, and i only run about 12-15 days at the track per season. i took the calipers apart tofind "pickup" on the pistons. there was a very small amount of wear showing through the black annodizing of the caliper piston bores, but no pickup. the pichup scores on the pistons polished off with ease. i put a small amount lubrication on the pistons before reinstall and they slide in very easy! put them back on and bled the system, they are working great right now, they back off perfect.

Just an update. I changed out the "square" o-rings in the calipers and went to the "round" style and the front wheels make severals turns before stopping now.

Did the same on my Wilwoods 3 years ago...left the 2in compression between the pads in.

I have a strange assembly on my car and they seem to drag a bit.
Is this wrong?

Where did you get the O-Rings from?
