Throttle Stop Question
Has anyone made a home made throttle stop and can you post pictures or possibly give share the idea as to how to make one. I know I can purchase either an electric or an air throttle stop. My car is running really tight I believe the best it has run has been a 10.75 and I would like to race in the Hot Rod class in San Antonio, Tx come September any help would be appreciated. Thank You.

Re: Throttle Stop Question
At your ET I think I'd just do it with weight....

Re: Throttle Stop Question
I agree with Bob, weight is simpler and more predictable when your that close to the index.
I have a home made, inline air (Co2) cylinder stop and it's a pain in the *** because there are a lot of variables stroke length, stroke time, the amount of resistance,in the carb linkage, Co2 Pressure, how solid the throttle pedal stop is, how much stretch and slack in in the throttle cable. Ballast is the simplest and cheapest but there a couple of other ways too, Moroso markets a fixed stop and there's some guys selling a restrictor plate system which would work too also if you using a vacumn secondary holley or demon you can put a stop on the vacumn motor. But if your determined to build you own in line stop contact me and I will help you with it.( But I can almost guarantee you, at some point, it will drive you nuts!) |
Re: Throttle Stop Question
Years ago I made a bracket that bolted to the back carb bolt, I then took a cariage bolt ground the end flat and ran it through the brack with a jam nut on both sides. The carb linkage would hit the bolt keeping it from opening all the way. It was good for about 2 tenths in the 1/8th mile.
I think Moroso made something similar for a while. Don't know if they still do. Chip |
Re: Throttle Stop Question
MOR-65042 is the part# about $27.00 retail

Re: Throttle Stop Question
I have made a couple for dominators and have slowed my car up as much as 5 tenths. A couple of buddies are using the EZPLATE system to slow their cars up. Its a little pricey but, evidently very adjustable.

Re: Throttle Stop Question
Put some weight in and shift it way early

Re: Throttle Stop Question
I'm in the same situation running 10.7x and looking to set up for HR & S/ST. Are you guys suggesting to use weight or mechanical stop just because it's a cheap way or are throttle stops not consistent when only taking out 2 tenths?
I already have a Mega 85 and just need a stop, also looking for your suggestions. |
Re: Throttle Stop Question
Frank
Weight is not only cheap it's pretty predictable the solid stop also is inexpensive and they do work. Their only achellies heel is you can't shut them off if the track gets slick. When you get it close +/-.02 you can adjust that with the oil level but you got to be careful you don't want to overfill it and get the oil foaming 1/2 qt one way or the other will provide you with some adjustment. get a couple of spare filters. |
Re: Throttle Stop Question
I'm in a similar situation and thinking of trying the ez-plate system. I've found that my car is not quite as predictable as I would like only killing 3 to 4 tenths. The stop is only activating for a few fractions of a second so not much variance there.
