torque convertor

Posting this for my step dad. He just bought a dragster hopes to run 8.90 class with it. My question is the torque converter is a 5000 stall. It has a transbrake. What rpm should he be leaving at off the tb to make the tc work properly. I'm a stick guy so that's why I'm asking here. Thanks. Ed

Re: torque convertor

He needs to leave on the convertor.....stage it and matt it. Most guys in S/C are running 5600 to 6000 convertors...and leave on the convertor....although yours should be fine....doesn't take much to make a dragster go 8.90...but you do need to be on it to hit the .400 pro tree. I have a 5800 stall and I chip mine 5600....just to take a little load off the convertor....

Good Luck!

I have a 5200 stall and leave at 4700 but it's a 3040 lb door car on a .500 tree. Don't know if that helps or not....

Ed, If he can leave on the limiter, it's easier on the converter , but you've got to be able to go red first. Delay boxes are legal over there..

Re: torque convertor

Our car hit harder chipped a few hundred rpm down from stall. Flashed the converter. See it it will go red on the pro tree with no delay. Watch the front wheels to see if they are rolling through the beams or wheelieing up out of the beam. Up is quicker but less repeatable.
