synthetic racing oil?
i have been running rp racing 21 oil for a couple of years. was wondering if there was a similar oil that you could buy for under $10/quart. was looking at the valvoline full synthetic 10w/30 oil racing oil. i checked the price at o'reilly's $9/quart. i love the royal purple but just trying to find something a little less expensive. any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks jason i run a 327/275 ss combo

Re: synthetic racing oil?
If you have a known good product, why would you worry about saving $5 or $6 dollars on a oil change. I play most every day to get 5 more hp and want the motor to last, so I look at oil much differently than you do. I want the best I can get and THEN I worry about money. The smaller the motor, the more I look too oil to get that extra power. 5 hp on a 283 is much better than 5 hp on a 427, but 5 hp is 5 hp.

Re: synthetic racing oil?
I've been very happy with Amsoil products. They've come out with a line called "Dominator" which includes 5w-20, 10w-30 and 15w-40, all with extra zinc & phosphorous for flat tappet cams. I use the 5w-20 which I'm pretty sure can be gotten for less than $10.
While I never had the luxury of putting an engine on a dyno, the most obvious and simple example I've seen of how well it works is when I change from conventional straight weight 30w or 40w oil used for break-in. I have to adjust the idle down every time - no other changes. It has helped ET over other conventional oils, but it's been a while since I switched. I've never bothered to compare it to other synthetics on the track, but I sincerely doubt there would be much difference. http://www.amsoil.com/techservicesbu...t%20tappet.pdf If you need source and contact info, feel free to PM me. |
